The U.S. government has fined Bovis Lend Lease Limited and John Galt Corp. $464,500 for safety hazards at a condemned skyscraper where two firefighters died last summer. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Bovis Lend Lease and John Galt Corp. for 44 safety and health violations at the former Deutsche Bank tower across from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center. Two firefighters were killed in an August 18 fire at the partially dismantled, contaminated tower. The contractors, which were hired to clean the building of toxic debris and take it down, were charged with failing to inspect a stand pipe that was broken on the day of the fire, blocking emergency stairwells with construction materials and allowing smoking in work areas.

I think Ayn Rand's writing was insipid-- but she pretty much assured herself eternal popularity by providing a nice, shiny excuse for greed. More than an excuse, in fact. She enshrined it.

Her whole system is the philosophical equivalent of what Rush Limbaugh does. Nothing new, nothing challenging-- just tell certain people what they want to hear, and tell them the shitty things they do are noble.
