Poll question: Clinton lies under oath about sex. Gonzales lies under oath
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 05:06 PM by cali
about official DoJ business in a Congressional Hearing. Clinton gets impeached and has his licence to practice suspended for several years.

What happens to Gonzo?

1. How jaded am I that I would be surprised if he even would be let go from his job?

2. No more jaded than I am.
I realized after I posted it that I forgot the option of staying on- and though I think that's unlikely- it isn't outside the realm of possibility.

3. Has a single subpoena been issued to any White House staff yet?
I remember how breathless everyone has been about that prospect. Maybe I missed it.

4. They will be.
Leahy, Conyers and Shumer have been setting their ducks in a row and strengthening the power of those subpoenas. And today's hearing did just that. Kyle directly implicated Harriet Myers, making the case for her testimony that much stronger. Leahy and others know that the subpoenas will be contested through the legal process. The negotiation they've been engaged in and Hearings like today's make their case for the need to subpoena that much stronger.

Don't expect subpoenas before the third week in April.

5. Wait a couple of months then, "I'm sorry to see Alberto go.." Rummy redux.
With the usual jabber about "faithful service to his country" and "..will be missed".

Then, yesterdays news - as revised by the RW to "for the good of the country" and "not to serve as a distraction", blecchh.

9. It doesn't really matter.
First of all, that's the overwhelming perception in the country, and second of all, I remember those smarmy interviews where he tried to parse everything six ways from Sunday.

10. Pres. Clinton WAS NOT CONVICTED of lying under oath. This is an opinion backed
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 06:39 PM by WinkyDink
by no legally binding evidence. And none of us was there, so why take Monica's word?

And "smarmy interviews" don't equate to "under oath".

As for "public perception": WMD's, Iraq, Saddam, and 9/11, anyone?

12. And I didn't say that HE WAS CONVICTED
I said he was impeached. Want to argue that for crap's sake? And what's more he goddamn well did lie, and fucking apologized for it. I certainly was against impeachment, but he behaved like a real asshole, and I blame HIM for bush, as much as I blame crooked pukes and Nader. He also completely abused the power imbalance when it came to an young intern in the WH.

14. You said he lied under oath..he did not nor was he ever charged with such a thing
He lost his license for misleading testimony but not for lying. He told the exact truth as to the definition of sex that was given him. He lied to the general public when he wagged his finger and said he did not have sex with that lady. America considers a blow job sex even if the special prosecuters office does not..You carry the right's water on this subject..

13. He did it. Who cares? It wasn't important.
We look as dumb and hypocritical when we say "Lying under oath wasn't a big deal. It was just a blow job!" as the Republicans do when they say "Lying under oath wasn't a big deal. It was just a ......"

If we applied the same hypocrisy standards to ourselves as we do to the Republicans, this would be a really boring place.

15. Right. People DIE when Republicans lie.
Or else the very fabric of justice and rule of law perishes.

When Democrats lie, a couple of people have a good time.

16. I couldn't agree more with your statement.
I was responding to the poster who has convinced himself that Clinton didn't lie under oath. That kind of intellectual dishonesty isn't necessary for us to dominate this argument. So why do it?
