FBI chief who backed Lam just resigned

SAN DIEGO – San Diego FBI chief Dan Dzwilewski, who was rebuked by superiors for publicly defending ousted U.S. Attorney Carol Lam, has announced his retirement.

Dzwilewski, who has been at the helm of the San Diego office since July 2003, sent an e-mail to his agents and staff Wednesday saying he planned to take a post as director of security at Sempra Energy. His last day at the bureau is to be April 30.

Some colleagues found the timing of the announcement curious. On Tuesday, FBI Director Robert Mueller acknowledged during testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee that one of his subordinates, John Pistole, told Dzwilewski that his statements on Lam were inappropriate and that he should keep quiet.

Dzwilewski had said Lam's firing was political and would adversely affect ongoing corruption cases.

to this man, as well, to take him to task for commenting re Carol Lam. This can of worms has grown into a snake pit for the WH. It is NOT going away.

These appointees are all of a certain age".. they have kids to send to school and pricey lifestyles to support. They may be scumbags, but their family obligation will usually trump their sense of fairplay and honesty (when it comes to the millions of unseen/unknown ordinary folks they originally swore to protect and serve)

this job offer, so he commented to the paper KNOWING he had nothing to lose? Perhapse I'm being naive, but instead of slaming this guy, I think it's worth a thought that he secured his own future, and decided to go public with his feelings.

22. We need to counteract that with job offers from wealthy Dems and promises for positions

in the next Democratic administration. They are getting screwed now and we should be doing everything we can to back up these courageous whistleblowers.

Obviously Democrats can't offer nearly what Republicans can and do and we shouldn't even try to compete with Republicans in that respect, but we need to at least help out somehow.

Every one of these whistleblowers are ethical and the vast majority of them are also very highly skilled in their trade.

I'm tired of reading articles on how this whistleblower or that whistleblower has been black listed by their industry for speaking out on ethics. These are really our best and brightest and we are using them and tossing them aside without even trying to help. This allows bullying of potential whistleblowers and its not very ethical of the rest of us to not try to help them out.
