but the timing, and perhaps the judge, just did not work for them. that's just my opinion . . . why would a hard line right wing justice department let one of their own go?

Why would a Bush administration go after Stevens? Maybe the prosecutors messed up the case on purpose. Maybe they were just incompetent. Some things are unintentional. There were a lot of incompetent people in the Bush administration. If they start going after all the prosecutorial abuses in the Bush Justice Department, our federal prisons will be a little emptier in a lot of places, I suspect. The Holder Justice Department should be spending its time prosecuting the Bush administration criminals.
