(Cross posting from the Pets group)
I heard on the radio this morning that our local shelter desperately needs donations to replace all the pet food they had to pull off of their shelves. Mine is in Houston, but I imagine shelters around the country are feeling the pinch.
Just thought I'd help spread the word to check your local shelter websites.

The Houston Humane Society (HHS) is issuing an emergency plea for dog and cat food. The HHS goes through over 200 pounds of food per day, and were beginning to experience a shortage even before last week’s report of recalled foods from Menu Foods.
Our stock of donated food included cans and pouches of the recalled products from Menu Foods, and needs to be replaced with a safe alternative. We are especially in need of food formulated for puppies and kittens, and dry food for the large adoptable dogs.
We will be collecting food beginning immediately. Please refer to this website for a list of products recalled by Menu Foods, and avoid those products, for both our animals and your own. Anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable choosing a safe brand of pet food can assist by donating money or gift cards to Petsmart, Petco or Sam’s Club, so we can purchase food ourselves, tax-free. Kitty litter is also always a necessity.
Note: no adoptable animals at the Houston Humane Society have become ill from consuming Menu Food products.
