Bill O'Reilly is ORDERING ABC to Fire Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie O’Donnell and Bill O'Reilly have something in common. They both have television shows that reach millions of people. Both are allowed to say what they want. Bill O'Reilly offers his "conservative" view and does not fold under pressure for expressing his views.

10. Yeah, but she's a ratings bonanza for that show.
Edited on Fri Mar-30-07 01:26 PM by gatorboy
The show's audience has grown considerably since she joined their little sewing circle.

An audience larger than anything O'Reilly could muster. :P

83. Maybe. But by keeping Rosie on, they can show they're not. Plus....
...they're more elitist than conservative. Rosie is rich; Rosie is one of them. They'll stick by their people under normal outside pressures, as any sane organization will, if just for morale's sake (particularly if that outside pressure mostly has the effect of increasing consumer awareness of their show!).

But more than elitist or conservative, networks are money grubbers. Whatever boosts ratings also boosts corporate ad rates. You better believe they're holding onto Rosie.

13. I saw the show yesterday that he is probably thowing his fit about.
Rosie was just being Rosie - she is smart and vocal and refuses to just back down to be polite. It did get kind of hot there for a while yesterday. But the crowd was with her - cheering her on.

I wouldn't watch the view if Rosie wasn't on.

I like her a lot. Can't say I feel the same way about Bill. I think he is a big phony.

30. I watched the View for the first time yesterday
and I thought Rosie's MIHOP 9/11 rant was factually incorrect for the simple reason that the bush administration was and is incapable of pulling off anything as well planned as 9/11 apparently was. They would've fucked it up for sure. Nevertheless this is still America (last time I checked anyway) and she has just as much right to espouse conspiracy theories as Billo does to spew pig shit out of his mouth five days a week for three hours a day. BTW I don't think Rosie is gonna "fold under pressure" either, nor would I expect that ABC will do anything to her. That show would be down the shitter without her and they know it. I don't have figures but I'd be willing to bet her audience is ten times that of the "factor" and probably 100 times his lame ass radio show.

51. Ok I found out she did say it.
Had to verify it, because I have no trust in Bill at all after his Malmedy crap. This is her blog post where she says it.

http://www.rosie.com/blog/2007/03/28/britis-hostages/

"the british did it on purpose
into iranian waters
as
US MILITARY BUILD UP ON THE IRANIAN BORDER

we will be in iran
before summer
as planned

"

I consider this to be irresponsible to say. If that is her who posted that, and it is her screename, this was wrong. There is nothing wrong with bringing up the idea that it might be a possibility, but to describe it like fact like this post did with no proof is not a decent thing to do.

78. Fire them on what grounds? Of being "offensive idiots"? Who decides?
Who will determine the criteria as to what constitutes the proper degree offensiveness and idiocy for which people should be fired from their jobs?

Since both Rosie and O'Reilly engage in political speech, please describe the limits on political speech that you would deem appropriate and who ought to set and enforce those limits.

I am assuming that your statement advocating that both of them be fired -- "Fire them both" -- represents a sincere belief that termination of employment is an appropriate method of enforcing limits on political speech. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

86. If you believe
that I would for one moment actually advocate termination of employment as a tool for enforcing limits on political speech, you are confusing internet hyperbole with a legitimate legislative agenda....

I will rephrase... I hope both of these tools go off the air. Although O'Reilly is considerably more offensive than O'Donnell, she is still offensive enough to make me wish that she wasn't on tv. Not that I would watch something as inherently vapid as The View, which certainly towers over Regis and Kellly, but is still utterly uninteresting, banal and trivial.

61. Dear Bill-O...
Whatsdamatter? Tired of seeing Rosie layeth the smackdown on Liz, the dumb bimbo of a trailer trash ho, day after day after day?

Sounds like a variation of Bill-O's style of having a debate; When you can't beat 'em, cut their mic.

71. He's such a phony
I love it when he says he's just "looking out for the folks". Who asked him and who wants him looking after them? What "folks"? He's appointed himself some kind of saviour. Do people fall for this crap?

76. Rosie needs her own show on MSNBC following KO's show. It should be a political
show with guests she interviews. Following her, PHIL DONAHUE! I miss Phil.:( I grew up watching him here in the Chicago area. I really, really miss his show. MSNBC should offer him BIG BUCKS...as an apology for firing him when his show was the highest rated show on MSNBC....and bring him back. KO, ROSIE and DONAHUE. Wouldn't that be great? MSNBC's ratings would fly through the roof.

82. Now there's a LineUp!!!
Keith, Rosie & Phil!!! Woohoo!

I wish Rosie wouldn't say these more outlandish things. The provable scandals in this Administration are wild and don't get enough attention. People won't believe her when she needs to get across an important point, like the UN testimony wasn't accurate.

88. Personally, I'd Almost Want To Find It Funny If She Did Get Fired Since I Loathe Her, But I Also
know that in this case it would be for completely the wrong reasons and therefore something I couldn't laugh at. As much as I think her a raving lunatic, she has the right to express such views in the ways that she is. If she got fired it should be for lack of ratings due to her; of which then I could laugh, not for reasons such as oreilly starting campaigns for it.
