Good. CBS reporting that American sailors have retaken cargo ship from pirates
The Danish held ship, operating out of the U.S. is crewed by American seamen. It's being reported that they threw some of the pirates overboard. A news conference by the company is scheduled to begin shortly.

2. the news organizations have evidently all jumped to a conclusion
that the CEO of Maersk will not confirm. And I'm guilty of reporting what they reported.

3. Maersk CEO live would not confirm per se but does seem action being taken
I say good! I don't buy the 'just disgruntled Somali farmers trying to feed their families' meme

5. I still don't understand why ship owners aren't fighting back.
Are they too cheap to hire four guys with Uzis to patrol the ships? They're relying on the Navy or whoever, to patrol the waters. They have radar, sonar, lights, etc., you see a boat approaching, give them a warning over loudspeakers, a horn blast, if they keep coming you blow them out of the water. How hard is it? I hate guns, but this is what guns are for! You're standing on a deck, 50 feet above the water, one grenade over the side should do it. Am I being too simplistic?

8. I just heard a report on CNN about how the pirates
often threaten to blow up the ships with rpgs and such, and that the crew of these ships are loath to take that risk.

10. Pretty ironic that the pirates would be willing to sink a ship and pollute the area
given that the piracy is supposedly a by-product of others polluting their waterways.

And, I've never bought that justification and apparently neither has the UN since they consider the pirates to be in violation of international law.

12. It's Illegal
Entering a harbor, or in some cases even the territorial waters of a ship with armed crewmen is usually illegal.

13. Hmmm, hadn't thought of that.
There has got to be a way to protect ships without having to wait for the Navy to arrive. By then, it's usually too late.

16. Just heard from a person familiar with this.
The only ships Somali pirates won't touch belong to.....guess who? Israel. Their crews are armed with Uzis.

6. Maersk must be hiring ninja pirates to protect their ships.
Everybody knows the hierarchy: Ninjas<Pirates<Ninja Pirates.

Then go back to dumping fucking poison into their waters. Fuck them pirtates, just because they want the west to stop killing their children, just because they have no way to stop western nations from dumping toxic waste on the shores of Somalia, doesn't mean they have a right to attempt to stop it themselves. KILL EM" ALL, they deserve it.

Here let me help all you supposedly well informed folks out here:

So these people were trying to save their country from toxic waste dumping and illegal fishing and DU thinks it's just awesome that they were thrown overboard. Brilliant, as usual.
