Eleanor Clift Predicts Gonzales Gone On Good Friday When Press Goes Home
She just predicted this on The McLaughlin Group. Congress will be in recess and the press will be wanting to head home for Easter.

2. and Bush can make a recess appointment
and wouldn't have to worry about senate confirmation until December 2008....and by then it wouldn't matter.

14. and then what -- give Gonzo a job in the WH so they can make a bogus
executive privilege claim? It's a sure thing that the next AG will have to be a "go down with the ship" Bushie, a la Karen Hughes...

17. Bush can always issue a blanket pardon for all acts while AG
and claim he's doing it to save Gonzales from the evil Democratic Party and their "witch hunt" and let's face it, a lot of GOP voters would pounce on it and eat it up.

20. with Bush approval numbers in the low 30's, I'm not sure "a lot" of GOP voters
would go for it, although the kool aid drinkers certainly would.

27. I wonder if in this climate if it would strengthen the Dems hand
We're stuck in Iraq. W's popularity is at historic lows. Just wondering if it would only create Rove's greatest nightmare - a huge voter turnout in '08. The smell of corruption is what he used to win elections. Turn around could bite the collective Republican ass.

30. I think it would actually...help the Democratic Party

if Bush is in protect my own ass mode and screw the rest...well...all bets are off...Bush is liable to do anything

so I don't know if he would care if he did something that ultimately helped the Democratic Party as long as it saved his ass in some way

It's been one for one all for one since he got into office.

34. I agree
but I do think he'd try and protect Rove and Hughes if he had to...but I also think Rove is fairly adept at saving himself.

In the end it's the business deals/connections that are more important than the party to neo-cons and other assorted Bushies...the party is the vehicle used to obtain the deals and laws favorable to them

Much like they use religion to appeal to the religious right, the GOP itself is a handy tool

People like Dobson, Falwell and Robertson are more about the power their role as religious leader brings them than they are about saving souls. So while the political end uses them to gain votes, the religious right uses the political end to increase their power (and wealth)

35. I wonder when he'd arrive at the point where he'd throw R & H under the bus
He's had long standing relationships with both Rove and Hughes. But he's also messianic as Alter pointed out the other day to Olbermann. So he's really buggering nuts. The Paraguay land keeps coming back to mind. Private armies to protect them and plenty of money. This American story is more like a movie script.

it's just that I think everyone is fodder for the bus wheels. And to think, no matter what the evil shenanigans, people voted for him by the millions and had to be peeled away from him one by one over these past 6+ years.

31. He wouldn't have to -no recess appointment would at this time
A recess appointment is good until the END of the NEXT session

the 110th is only in the first session and this session doesn't end until Dec 2007...and the 2nd or next session doesn't begin until Jan 2008 and ends Dec of 2008...after the Presidential elections.

12. Well Gonzales does seem like the cowardly type, and he's
certainly a huge liar and a disgrace.

So he has all of the shameless qualities that would lead an individual like him to
slip out the back door in the middle of the night.
