EX-OFFICIAL GUILTY OF RAPE; NO APOLOGY-Kingston, Mass. ex-selectman gets 5 years for raping boy
EX-OFFICIAL GUILTY OF RAPE; NO APOLOGY - Kingston ex-selectman stoic as he gets 5 years for raping boy

By KAREN GOULART
The Patriot Ledger

BROCKTON - Former Kingston selectman Richard Cretinon offered neither explanation nor apology after being convicted of raping a 14-year-old boy.

When the verdicts were announced yesterday in Brockton Superior Court, the boy, now 17, cupped his hands over his mouth as his mother began crying.

Cretinon maintained a stoic expression and calmly raised his wrists to his waist to be handcuffed.

He was led from the courtroom to begin serving five years at the maximum-security state prison in Walpole.

Cretinon is the latest of eight community leaders in Kingston to be accused of sex crimes against children over the past 18 years.

Two others, former Silver Lake school committee member Brian Caseau and former Police Chief Alan Ballinger, are currently serving prison sentences for raping teenage girls.

Among the others accused of sex crimes are Frederick Ryan, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, who was defrocked last month over sex abuse allegations, another clergyman, a deacon, a police officer and another police chief.

1. Five years for rape?
That sounds extremely lenient, although any stretch at Walpole - especially for a rapist - will certainly be no picnic.

Sitting at the monitor without my glasses, that guy looks a LOT like The Dick of Death!

Engaging in a bit of idle speculation...wonder if there's any connection among the various authority figures convicted lately? A 'pedophile ring,' perhaps?

4. Since many of the characters in this sordid drama were,
in one way or another, connected to politics, I wish they would publish their political affiliation. Rather than just a vindictive confirmation of my own bias, it might go a long way toward creating a community with better government, more integrity and better conditions all around.

5. What the fuckingfuckfuck fuck?
What is going on out there? What the hell is going on in Kingston? When did it become conventional wisdom or the latest fad that raping and molesting kids was either good sex, good self-expression or even acceptable? How the hell does something like this become rooted in a community?

On the other hand, has it? Is it possible we are seeing another McMartin-type round of hysteria?

Too many questions, admittedly. On the other hand, if it did happen: sex with kids? Why? Just why? My mind is too small and I just cannot conceive the possibility.

8. That's exactly what I was thinking....
In fact I thought it was Crashcart himself.

But it couldn't be Cheney, because if HE did it, he wouldn't get a day of jail time let alone 5 years.

10. That's just what i was thinking

The police, judges and legislators allow child rapists to have light sentences or often merely probation, while making and enforcing draconian sentences for non-violent drug users.

Why do we as citizens continue to allow this?

Is the pot smoker living to the left of you REALLY more dangerous than the sex offender living to your right? Who do you want mingling in society?

Apparently, too many cops, judges and legislators are perfectly fine letting the citizen deal with the violent and letting prison guards torment the non-violent.

Some day we will wake up.

11. weird coincidence: Cretinon had bought the rectory where a priest accused of molestation lived...
But it wasn't just Cretinon's public service that made him known around town. Last year, Cretinon made news when he bought and moved the former rectory of St. Joseph's Church across town to his own property, where it now serves as his house.

The century-old rectory had been home to Monsignor Frederick J. Ryan, who resigned as pastor of St. Joseph Parish last year after two men accused him of sexually abusing them as teenagers at West Roxbury's Catholic Memorial High School in the 1970s.

Weird about the rectory. Maybe it's cursed...

It's like Kingston is inhabited by a demon that seduces men into committing sex crimes.
