My responses to a Republican friend on Iraq
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 01:57 PM by Quixote1818
This may be a little confusing because he was responding to my earlier responses. What he wrote back was so bad I just had to share.

1. Iraq did not comply with all the UN resolutions. Are you insane. Up to the day we invaded they were keeping out UN inspectors.

My Response:

What was Hans Blix then doing in Iraq?

Hans Blix:

"Since we arrived in Iraq, we have conducted more than 400 inspections covering more than 300 sites. All inspections were performed without notice, and access was almost always provided promptly. In no case have we seen convincing evidence that the Iraqi side knew in advance that the inspectors were coming."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,,895882,00.html

Resolution 1441

United States - The US maintained that Iraq was not cooperating with UN inspectors and had not met its obligations to 17 UN resolutions. The US felt that resolution 1441 called for the immediate, total disarmament of Iraq and continued to show frustration at the fact that months after the resolution was passed Iraq was still not disarming. Language in Resolution 1441 recalled that the use of "all means necessary" was still authorized and in effect from UN Resolution 678, and therefore maintained that if Iraq failed to comply with the "one final chance to comply" provision of resolution 1441, then military action would be the result.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_UN_Security_Council_and_the_Iraq_war

How could they disarm anymore then they already had????? They never had any WMD's. We claimed they were lying to us because the inspectors couldn't find any WMD's. Just because we claimed they didn't comply doesn't make it the truth. Our justification for going to war was made on false accusations.

2. One cell at a time would be great. You think the Democrats will let us do that. What does that mean send in special forces illegally in Arab countries. Reason we can't find Osama is because he is a #$%$#$% pussy and he is hiding like a rat.

My Response:

That’s what Clinton was doing. He was finding each camp and launching a missile at it. He probably could have done more though.

3. 70 % of the country doesn't care about US attorneys getting fired. The Democrats are politicizing again.I really could care less about Gonzales!

My Response:

How would you feel if Clinton had fired Attorney's that were in the middle of cases and were going after Democrats or because they had been too soft on Republicans who probably hadn’t done anything wrong? Wouldn’t you want those attorneys to do the right thing? I know you and I know you care about people doing the right thing. Wouldn’t you want them to get the criminals regardless of party affiliation?

4. Occupation If America is occupying where is all the oil revenue at. I want gas for 50 cents a gallon. We are not occupying. Occupyers steal oil, rape women, and put there own government in. We are trying to get the hell out and let the Iraqies take over.

My Response:

Thats not what I am talking about. When I say occupation I just mean our military being there. Even the Bush administration calls it an occupation.
I still would like to know what this is all this about though:

5. On the generals defecting. In any business there are a handful of people who won't like they way the boss works.

My response:

In this case however it would be most of the staff defecting.

The current list of top US Generals opposing President Bush's plans appears sufficient to staff a mini-Pentagon:

* Army General Eric Shinseki, former Chief of Staff, United States Army
* Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, former head of Central Command for U.S. forces in the Middle East
* Gen. Brent Scowcroft, President Bush Senior's National Security Advisor
* Gen. Wesley Clark, a former NATO Military Commander
* Marine Lieut. General Greg Newbold - former Marine Corps. Lieutenant General and Director of Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff
* Army Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, former Commanding General, Office of Security Transition, IRAQ
* Maj. Gen. John Batiste, former Commander of 1st Infantry Division in IRAQ

6. Tell me what exactly the Baker report said to do. I like Jim Baker.

My Response:

It basically says to do just the opposite of everything Bush is doing.

7. When did Germany invade America. I do not listen to Rush Limbaugh. Japan invaded Pearl Harbor. Go see the flags of our father do you think now we could get America to storm Iwagima to control the little Island at the cost of how many thousands of lives in 35 days for a Island the size of Palisade not. The media would ask for a senate investigation of the policy's of the Generals. If every one would come together support the President till this is through we can get this done. Then fire his ass for doing this in the first place by electing a Democrat.

My Response:

They didn't but they declared war on America:

Ultimately, it was Hitler and Mussolini’s declaration of war against the US on 11 December 1941, that overcame American opposition to a crusade against all the fascist powers.

8. To end this I would like to say that is what makes America great is the ability to debate these issues and still be friends. Do you think in any Arab country or most country's this kind of criticism could go on of the current regime. Now we just have to get the Iraqie people to believe in dying for it so our troops don't have to.

My Response:

The new Iraqi constitution isn't like ours though. It's basically the groundwork for a Muslim theocracy much like Iran's. Even if we do win their constitution will be nothing like ours.

Iraq Constitution: Bad news for Christians

October 19, 2005
By William John Hagan
WorldNetDaily.com
The new Iraq Constitution gives hope that, in a post-Saddam era, this ancient nation may arise as the first truly democratic republic in the Middle East. Unfortunately, the operative word here is "hope." The new Constitution, with the blessings of the United States and Great Britain, has instead turned the once-secular Iraq into an Islamic republic.

I do agree that it's wonderful that you and I can have disagreements and that we have a great country.

1. Tell him that there are other countries in the world that can discuss issues
I am sick and tired of hearing about how this is the only country where people can talk about the government, when there are plenty of other countries that can and we now have free speech zones.

3. You did a fantastic job, you need to by yourself a beer or 6
You showed him the facts and that's whats needed. Now show him the human side to this war. Get the recent issue of Newsweek, it has a collection of letters written by soldiers who ended up dying over there. Very sad, you will tear up. Pass that issue to your conservative buddy, these people need to read it. If you can't get the magazine, I have a link to it on my blog.

4. great responses...
though, I have a few little tweaks. O8)

2. Not only was Clinton going after bin Laden, but the Republicans criticized him to no end for doing so. They accused him of wagging the dog, to divert Americans' attention from the extremely important issue of stains on a blue dress.

4. Where's the oil revenue? In the pockets of all of the Republican cronies. Does he honestly think that gas prices are an example of strict supply and demand?

7. When did Iraq invade America? (Plus a small nitpick: it's Iwo Jima, no Iwagima. Maybe he needs to go see Flags' companion film, Letters from Iwo Jima.)

8. Yeah, America's great; too bad Republicans have such little confidence in it or respect for it that they call anyone who doesn't support every single war (except for Kosovo, of course) a traitor and say they should leave the country.

Those are just a few little tweaks I'd add to your already-great responses. :applause:
