Miss California Carrie Prejean Causes Uproar With Gay Marriage Answer At Pageant
What a night it was on Sunday. Tons of beautiful
ladies and Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA on Sunday. But usually the politic-less show took a turn to politics in the show. People are making a fuss over what Miss California's comments towards gay marriage.

According to FOX NEWS, "When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

This did not go over well with people who believe in gay marriage. Prejean has stuck to her guns on her answer and is entitled to her own beliefs...but some wanted blood that night. According to reports, people in the lobby were screaming at her and most were very upset she got runner-up. Some are saying that her answer cost her the crown. Let us hope that isn't the case for the beautiful Miss California Carrie Prejean. (c) tPC

1. On the other hand who cares about the opinion of a vapid beauty queen?

2. I think she kinda got sandbagged
Sure, she's an idiot, but let's face it, what do you think the answer of most of her opponents would have been?

5. Not the best article I know
It had the quote I was looking for so I stuck with it. The part that especially struck me was the 'my country' part. Gay marriage must not be ok in 'her country'.

6. I don't see a problem ...
with her answer. She CLEARLY gave her own opinion... AND apologized first! She's allowed to believe that, that's her right.

She probably is from a fundie family and that explains that...

However I would have been much MORE impressed if she gave the classic libertarian answer...

"The Federal Government has no right to dictate private personal matters such as Gay Marriage."

castigated by it. That was a difficult question in a tough time. The country is divided and whatever her answer was going to be, she was going/ and is being crucified.

12. Absolutely. While I don't agree with her, she said what
she believes in a straightforward and non condescending way IMO.

Ever been to a pageant? Ever notice how many gay men are there helping and in attendance?

I dont have a problem with her answer in that its her beliefs - I do have a problem in this was a trial meant to win a year of representing women in America and the Miss USA Pageant. If she lost its not because of her beliefs its because she did not know how to answer such a question in a way that would hold true to herself but represent the spirit of the pageant and all the people that put their work into it.

7. She could have dodged the issue by saying she didn't believe in marriage. nt

8. She's entitled to her opinion. She's not entitled to force her opinion
on others and deprive them of constitutional rights.

14. That the question was asked at all...
That the question was asked at all surprises me. From what I remember (I used to watch those in middle and high school), the questions were always invariably non-controversial, neutral and rather banal.

I imagine that had I been watching the pageant with my pals in the late 70's and early 80's, we would have been quite shocked at the (relatively) controversial nature of the question at that time.

Regardless of her answer, it seems like another step forward-- a step that would have been unheard of in 1981.
