17. Actually,
patriotism and Christianity got linked (deliberately) to Conservative Republicanism (Fascism.) It's the Rove plan for a permanent Republican majority.

It was working there for a while.

6. My stepfather, an atheist and Korean War veteran...
wore a US flag lapel pin, and he was anything but lame. God rest his soul.

13. All due respect due to the gentleman.
Everytime I see the lapel flag I think of Bush. I believe he's worn it throughout his term - even had Kerry sporting it for a year.

19. Thank you. I should have added "life-long Democrat" as well.

I know what you mean about Bush, however, and other opportunistic politicans who wrap themselves in the flag. My stepfather served his country for 40+ years, had a mature "love" for it, and worked hard to make it better--it just seemed natural to see that little pin on his lapel or one of his hats.

Then there are those who write on it:

And walk on it!:

8. I wear a flag lapel pin.
Edited on Sat Mar-31-07 09:22 PM by augie38
I also have a U.S. flag decal on my pickup... next to my Kerry/Edwards sticker.

Why should we allow the republicans to monopolize the flag.

9. They SUCK
And note how they're growing in size, especially on CBS sports announcers.

Disgusting jingoism.

I've visited at least 20 other countries and no where else is there such a blatant display of flags than here. I suspect that there is an equivalently obnoxious display of such symbols in North Korea, Myanmar or other oppressive regimes but not in the world's real democracies.

11. Are you associating the two???
I think many people wear the lapel pins as a show of support for what this country was designed to be, not what it always is.

Like the many of us who stood up on election day, were the dems I met out at the polling places ChristoPatriots?

Sometimes, offense is in the eye of the beholder....

15. Yes I also had no idea
that as a "Christo" that I had to report somewhere to get my lapel pin to fully identify myself to the OP and others.

My bad! :P

12. So, you think it's a good idea to give the Republicans sole use of the flag?
That happened in the 60s and 70s and we lived to regret it.

As a 60s/70s college student, I still haven't completely subconsciously escaped from that. For years, I assumed my next door neighbors were Republicans - I found out differently when she commented positively on my Kerry sign.
