Gore mulling third party run in '08!
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton faces a possible new threat to her presidential ambitions.

Former Vice President Al Gore has again been entertaining offers to run for president. Gore has been discussing a run for a third party nomination with family and close aides.

>>

Sources close to Gore said Ralph Nader has sought to recruit the former vice president to run as the candidate for the Green Party. They said Gore has not rejected the offer and was consulting with family and friends to determine the feasibility of such a candidacy.

>>

The sources said Gore, who also serves as an adviser to Google, would quietly test the waters in a series of polls in the spring of 2007. They said his high profile will probably be maintained over the next few months when he publicizes his latest book, "The Assault on Reason" in May. The book is said to be an indictment of American politics.

but Howie Kurtz of PBS and WP "media critic" fame will say it's OK to publish because "some say".

31. Serious question: . . . . . . . . . . . . . is there any reason I shouldn't put Phrogman on IGNORE?
This is the second time he's posted this crap story. This seems like disruptive, tombstoneable behavior.

some agenda - I do not know the agenda - but one wonders.

21. The irony would be rich and delicious.
All the DUers who have spent 6 solid years condemning Ralph Nader for screwing Gore suddenly would be looking at the other end of the barrel of the shotgun. It would be so sweet.

6. I certainly can't imagine him being recruited by Nader.
Turning his back on the party, maybe, just maybe, but recruited by Nader for the Green Party? Ridiculous.

26. Because they turned their backs on him?
Who in this party was out here calling for the coup of 2000 to be fought? where were all the Senators in the Congressional chambers besides the Black Congressional Caucus? Bottomline, while I do not believe this as I don't believe other speculation saying he is announcing in September which is utter BS without facts, it is a fact that the party apparatus deserted him and US then when we needed leadership to keep Bush out. That sure would be enough for me to say never again.

33. Gore and Liberman were both still Senators
Gore and/or Liberman could have "stood" with the Congressional Black Caucus, they were both still Senators at the time.

22. ya know...
reporters get away with murder with all this "sources say" bullshit

"Sources close to Gore" is completely unverifiable. Anyone can print anything and say it was received "not for attribution."

We need to develop an automatic response, make it a common theme amongst candidates, elected officials, progressive media, bloggers, everyone. When crap comes out, say "says who?" If they won't name names, then say "it is a bold-faced lie" - don't accuse the mysterious "source" - accuse the reporter. Make it a simple soundbite: "Limbaugh Lies!" "Drudge Lies!" etc. broadcast it far and wide. Don't get sucked into any debate over whether they have any credibility, whether they "need" to protect this "source". Just say "you are a liar."

It needs to be done to pols as well as reporters. Cheney recently made a joke at Gore's expense repeating the bs that Gore was an energy hog. That had been debunked repeatedly. Same with yellowcake in the SOTU. They repeat shit that has already been disproven because they know a few in the audience have been asleep and will buy it. You don't even need to offer any proof that its a lie. Since they won't tell the source, they can't prove the truth. Something that cannot be proven has to be at best a "theory." Hell, that's why evolution is "only a theory."
