Did Orin Hatch just play the race card?
So I'm watching Orin Hatch on Meet The Press, and I can't believe he just pulled out the race card, re: Alberto Gonzales.

While singing Gonzales' praises, Hatch said "He's the first Hispanic in this position."

What does that have to do with this situation with the fired prosecutors, Mr. Hatch? The fact that Mr. Gonzales is Hispanic is totally irrelevant to the situation at hand.

One other side note: Hatch went on to say that there's no doubt that Gonzales was "inaccurate" about his role in the prosecutors' firings. So, I guess from now on, no one lies. They are just "inaccurate."

4. Well, it's a GOOD sign! Means the junta is desperate to save their asses
and keeping Gonzo at the office is one of their last defenses.

If they are gonna try and frame any criticism of Alberto Gonzales as an attack on a Hispanic who did well, they are really sweating bullets. They got nuttin! :woohoo:

6. So now he's the first Hispanic in this position to lie to Congress - what is
Hatch's point?

7. I agree. Completely irrelevant. I'm sure when Condi Rice's scandal
gets going, they will remind us that she is black.

10. If all Hispanics were like Gonzales then I would say shoot them all
but they aren't. Just as whites like Orrin Hatch and gwBush are evil there are other races with their evil people.

If race was the determining factor in identifying evil people it would make it easier to lock them up automatically. Or maybe we should lock up all the Mormons because Hatch demonstrates the evil they have inside them.

11. What they're TRYING to say is that because he's Hispanic, he should be untouchable, no matter
what he did or does.

How they're FRAMING it is, the Democrats are racist for going after the Hispanic AG, and they're trying to say it in every indirect, mealy-mouthed way that they can.

12. Well, as Ann Coulter would say, it's the right's "doctrine of infallability"
Remember how Ann Coulter accused the Democrats of having a "doctrine of infallability?" She accused the Dems of purposefully putting up people like the Jersey Girls, and then saying 'you can't touch them' because they are grieving wives, etc.

As you pointed out, it's the same principle here. This is the right's "doctrine of infallability."

13. This week's talking point unveiled?
"...Hatch went on to say that there's no doubt that Gonzales was "inaccurate" about his role in the prosecutors' firings."

I have a feeling on Monday that is the "I" word we'll hear most...

My response is going to be that if Gonzales was merely "inaccurate", then so was Bill Clinton when denying "sexual relations".
