Denver, CO: We are now having the *weirdest* snow storm in my life...
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 10:30 AM by originalpckelly
All of the snow is gigantic snowflakes. Usually near the end of a storm the snow flakes get really big, but these flakes, including the ones at the bottom of the snow accumulation are big. The snow is really fluffy, almost like a bunch of cotton chopped up. Very weird.

1. We had a very small amount of snow the other day,
but I took notice while it was tapering off, that there were incredibly huge flakes mixed in. I love the snowfall. Were they all incredibly huge? That would have been awesome to see.

3. Indeed, that's what's so weird about it...
not GIGANTIC but gigantic compared to the regular snow crystals.

5. So, how far do we (Denver) need to go into February...
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 11:25 AM by hlthe2b
to set the record for consecutive days (weeks) with snow on the ground?

While I know lots of folks are getting really weary of all this, just to see my little doggie girl's excited face every time we go out to new snowfall puts a smile on my face.... I just love seeing her immediately do her "face plant" burrowing full length through the fresh stuff, then rolling over on her back to get a fresh full body snow "massage." Such joy! :loveya:

But we'll probably be breaking some kind of records.

Doggie face plant!

And the big flake snow is still going on!

8. my very smart son just said....
that it is part of the pollution in the air. Snowflakes have to form around a 'dust particle'- and we have some very big dust particles around these days- (my tinfoil theory about part of the weird weather is the bombs we have unleashed in the environment since 2002- almost non-stop)

We are in central NH- the temp here is -9* . It is 'flurry-ing' here too- giant flakes, which were not predicted, and have accumulated to an inch so far.

My son works for the highway dept- he's 23, and been driving for the town for the last 4yrs.- He knows the weather pretty well-

It is weird.

9. anchorage alaska on track for record snowfall season
but the previous record was in the 1950's so it is not related to current issues as it has happened before.

13. I still can't use my car
Every time I make some progress on digging a way out for it, the weekly storm and cold arrives and what has melted freezed and what I've cleared away gets covered again.

I guess Denver won't get the Great January Thaw this year.

18. All this is really making me miss Colorado
For once we're getting a *real* winter (not those fake ones we've had during the drought) and I'm missing it. Well, I'm in Canada where it's been snowing for about two weeks, but I would love to be home in the snow. That's always really nice.

24. Thanks for the invite but
I do still live at home, just not during the school year. However this may be my last winter and summer coming back for awhile. I'm hopefully going to graduate school and my parents are thinking about moving out of state.

15. Usually storms with large flakes are shorter lived.
At least in my state. You people get more than we do though.

16. Did you make it to the state anti-war protest today?
That was cool to watch. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of people there, and they had a good show, despite the snow.

17. I'm in Lakewood.. about 4pm the freakin sun came out
and it was still snowing! I've seen sunshowers before but never seen it snow while the sun was out. 6 straight weekends of snow.. ugh. I wish I could have afforded to go to DC and skip this one...

20. It's getting to be a pain.
I have to carefully pick which streets I can drive down and then once you get to where you're going, you not only have to be careful where you park (so you can get out) but then you have to tip toe across all the ice.

I usually like the snow and winter, but I really would like the ice to melt off the streets.

21. I have seen that a lot
Both in Ohio and Wisconsin. I am not sure what factors cause it, but I don't consider it unusual.

26. I'm headed to Denver (for a business trip) tomorrow...
oh boy!

Actually I just returned from Boston, where it was snowing and incredibly cold. I imagine it will be more of the same in Denver. I'm just there for one night, so I think I can handle it.

I'm going to an area called Centennial, near Englewood. Hope it's not too icy, I don't have the right shoes, LOL!
