6. Last night I attended a presentation for Climate Change
It was given by our Secretary of State, Bill Bradbury. Bill was among the 1st 50 people personally trained by Al Gore at his farm in Tenn. (they were trained in his barn.)

Since then, (Sept, I believe) Gore has trained 800 people. By the time the July concerts roll around, there will be many more people trained and giving the presentations.

It is my belief that Gore will have much more power as president to effect changes here in the U.S. where it is needed the most.

I am holding on very tightly to that little bit of hope that he will run.

17. Bill did wonderfully
I've heard him give rousing political speeches before, but this was different. He spoke from his life experiences (he's local) which made it more interested and the locals could relate better.

More importantly, his passion on the issue was evident. He is going to continue to give the presentation all over the state. Pretty amazing for a guy w/MS.

7. We will be there IN FORCE to see to it that this happens for you!!
Al Gore, wants open and honest hand count of all the ballots in Florida, 2000...

First, we should complete hand counts already begun in Palm Beach County, Dade County and Broward County to determine the true intentions of the voters based on an objective evaluation of their ballots. Observers and participants from both parties should be present in every counting room, as required under Florida law. The results of this recount would, of course, be added to the present certified vote total and the overseas absentee vote total. If this happens, I will abide by the result, I will take no legal action to challenge the result, and I will not support any legal action to challenge the result. I am also prepared, if Governor Bush prefers, to include in this recount all the counties in the entire state of Florida. I would also be willing to abide by that result and agree not to take any legal action to challenge that result. If there are no further interruptions to the process, we believe the count can be completed with seven days of the time it starts.

Now, second, I propose that Governor Bush and I meet personally, one on one, as soon as possible, before the vote count is finished, not to negotiate, but to improve the tone of our dialogue in America. We should both call on all of our supporters to respect the outcome of this election, whatever it may be. We should both call on all our supporters to prepare themselves to close ranks as Americans and unite the country behind the winner as soon as this process is completed.

9. Polls not good for some leading candidates
I'd like to see Gore run. He's been vetted already. He has credibility.

Polls are not good for either Hillary or Barak in head to head contests against Republicans. Both have big negatives to some. Edwards seems to do better.

I could vote for Ron Paul too as an anti-war Constitutionalist. I'd like to see a big veto proof Dem win in Congress but a 100% one party government actually scares the hell out of me after the last 6 years.

23. As importantly,
I doubt he thinks Clinton did all he could on environmental issues. Most of what Clinton did was in last minute executive orders. Also, in at least one article in September 2006, Bill Clinton took shots at Gore (and Kerry) as a loser, contrasting himself as one who knows how to win. (ignoring that there was a reason that Bush could run on restoring digity to the WH)

40. Gore does not keep saying "no".
He has never once said no. He says, "I have no plans at this time" and "I don't expect to ever be a candidate", etc. "No" would be "I will never run for president." or Sherman's classic "If nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve." Not all that complicated to say no.

60. Al Gore Per Interview On Swedish TV On His Birthday:
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 05:45 PM by RestoreGore
Al Gore: "I don't have any plans to be a candidate for president again. I haven't completely ruled out going back into politics at some point in my life. But the reason I don't ever expect to be a candidate again is partly because I've fallen out of love with politics, and I have less patience for some of the aspects of the political system. But also because the way the political dialogue is conducted over these 30 second TV commercials now, there is less of a chance to deal in depth with the biggest crisis that we have to face-this climate crisis."

I think after all the years he already spent in politics, Mr. Gore now wishes to be a kingmaker and a man who inspires a change of dialogue in this country. I do not believe he will run in this toxic system at least in 2008 and I can't blame him one bit. And he is right in that this crisis is so much more in depth than any 30 second TV ad. The fact that people are excited Hillary Clinton raised ten million dollars in a week is proof positive that it is not ideas that run campaigns but still entertainment. Politics is nothing but one big show in this country. Al Gore is not an entertainer, he is a statesman, and as long as this process remains the way it is with people doing nothing to change it, then I do not believe he will go back to it. In this interview he also sounded very disappointed with the people in this country regarding this crisis, and stated that even though momentum is picking up it isn't yet enough. Perhaps what he really would say if he could is that people need to stop looking to him alone for the quick fix and start taking action on this crisis and in saving this Democratic dialgue themselves Now. But God forbid you speak seriously and honestly about this lest you be branded as "pissing on someone's cornflakes" here. I would like the OP to tell us all just what will be "different" this time and that this man won't have his heart broken once again.

Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 06:54 PM by NastyDiaper
I didn't OP but I'll offer the best words i've read on the matter:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/5/16/213442/901 - While many argue that Al Gore let us down in his 2000 campaign, by our not challenging the green-scam groups in the lead-up to the election, it was in fact Progressives who let him down. Let's not do it again.
(May 16 2006, just as the Exxon sponsored smear groups start their swift-boat campaign in front of Inconvenient Truth)
We sunk that campaign and Exxposed the likes of CEI.

Gore's own words set up another thing that has changed.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8D2IU703&show_article=1
"And it really matters because the subjugation of news by entertainment seriously harms our democracy: it leads to dysfunctional journalism that fails to inform the people. And when the people are not informed, they cannot hold government accountable when it is incompetent, corrupt, or both."
FoxNew is on the decline, and drooling electorate they left behind can't even get their talking points straight anymore. The New Media rules now, and we are in the drivers seat.

We softened things up in the Senate by replacing Inhuff with Boxer (I can't get enough of this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWpkBcWsAME&mode=related&search). That's gotta make things a little more pleasant for President Gore.

What's different in 2008 is us, the progressive left.

And the media that still hides the truth? The corporations and lobbies that still buy policy in Washington Dc? The same campaign BS where money trumps principle and ideals? The elections that are still run by corporations? The Constitution that still lies in shambles? There is nothing different now than there was in 2000. If there were, Bush wouldn't still be there. Until Americans get the guts to do what must really be done, nothing will change.

We let Gore down in 2000. Gore may well go the way of Jimmy Carter as you suggest we let him. I got nothing but love for JC.

But I want candidate Gore to know that the welcome mat is out. For real this time.

72. You claim you know what Gore wants and at the same time, tell everyone that he can make up his own
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 10:06 PM by helderheid
mind. People ask you to quit being a downer on EACH and EVERY Gore '08 thread and you bitch that they don't own DU and you can say what you want, but in your Gore threads people call for him to run, a fight ensues and you tell them to quit posting on your thread.

You don't own Gore. You don't own his mind. You don't own his future.

Gore would make an excellent President. I hope he runs. I don't know if he will ANYMORE THAN YOU DO, but I hope he runs.

Edited to take out some unnecessary snarkiness. I REALLY don't like me when I'm around you.

74.  Wow, my comments really upset the ones who really think they own the man

And you can ask me to stop posting in threads until you turn blue, but you will get the same response as a Bushie on a freeper board would, which you are starting to sound like with your BS. Bottomline, I have my opinions of Mr. Gore and I think I know a bit about what he went through from actually supporting HIM and actually listening to his words all of these years... and YOU DON'T OWN THAT.

79. Of course I don't! I never said I did! Honestly RG, you sound emotionally unhinged.
If I were Gore, I'd be frightened of you. You sound stalker-ish.

Have a good life.

63. Please, President Gore!
Every time that I watch one of your speeches on c-span I am in tears just thinking about how much different the world would be if the rightful winner in '00 had taken the office. My kids notice the difference between an intelligent statesman who truly respects the Constitution and The Bill of Rights as opposed to Dimson** who displays none of these qualities, only naked aggression and lust for power.

Respectfully sir, the country needs you and Tipper. :patriot:

73. My Uncle who is as uninformed and centrist as they come said he didn't know who to vote for in '08
He hates Hillary. He has never voted for a Republican. I suggested Gore and his whole demeanor changed. That speaks volumes to me. He was thrilled at the idea of voting for Gore. "He's matured" "I could vote for him!"
