Marjorie "Midge" Rendell, wife of the governor is a federal judge.
http://www4.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Chicago+White+Sox+v+New+York+Yankees+dlM-eDb-2X8l.jpgBuried deep in the story about Spector's defection to the Dems were all the Dems that had to be placated so as to clear the way for Spector to run as the Dem nominee come next year. (Only Joe Sestak seems not to be fully on board). Among the greater luminaries who had to be waved off was one of those who was deeply involved in getting Spector to switch - Governor Rendell. Had Arlen stayed, there is a good chance Rendell would have at least tested the waters.
Rendell's wife, however, is a highly respected federal Circuit judge. People have been (doing a little more than just) whispering about her and her husband's desire to have her considered as a Supreme.
Now, with the retirement of Souter, might this happen? Might her appointment be the consolation prize for the governor?
I have no way of knowing ...... but it would not surprise me to at least see her name surfaced in the field of "potentials".
