Name an elected asshole and then consider his or her supporters. They didn't get in office by accident.



on edit: I changed one word in the OP. In the first sentence of the last line, i have changed the word "constituents" to "supporters". I carelessly used them interchangeably. They are not. My intent is much better presented in the word "supporter". That said, I still think there is hypersensitivity to what, to most, I suspect, was clear intent.

1. A lot of rural Minnesota is pretty conservative.

Similar to some of its neighbors - North Dakota, South Dakota, etc.

She just happens to be in the perfect geographical location for her views.

Or at least the views people thought she had. I can't imagine that the voters aren't taking a serious second look at her now.

For all we know those that voted for her may be exactly like her.

Those voters had a chance to taker a serious look at her in 2008, and she was just as bat shit crazy as she is now, but they still re-elected her to congress.

I'd like to believe that the people in her district can't possibly think the way she does, but then again I'd like to believe that Santa Claus is real.;)

I agree - they've had a pretty good look at her and re-elected her, so either they aren't paying attention or her insanity and/or stupidity isn't a deal-breaker. Go figure!

5. Agreed - politics is not a priority for a significant chunk of the electorate.

Polls show that a ton of people don't make up their minds on presidential candidates until the last *week*. Obviously, for those people, paying ongoing attention to politicians and their stances on the issues isn't high on their agendas.

Mostly they speak in code to bible people, hazy words about values and tradition that the rest of us don't think sound all that threatening.

Some people who aren't paying attention that much vote for them because they don't like the other candidate's looks, voice, manner of speaking, or attire.

When people are forced to pay attention, they tend to get alarmed.

Delay is gone. Fox and Bachmann both had nasty, close elections and will likely go in 2010.

My congressman is one of those assholes. There is a minority of us here who do everything we can to get him out of office. The republicans love him, and we can't make any headway.

I don't like the way you are making a sweeping statement about everyone who lives in a district. I can understand the anger of the people here who live in the South and parts of the country sometimes referred to as Dumbfuckistan. We are good Democrats.

The party needs to put a little effort and money into our parts of the country. They need to help us find good candidates and back them. We need help, not name-calling.

I live in a mostly Republican controlled area. We work our butts off to try to get Democrats in office, but we are simply out numbered.

The OP qualifies things by saying "those who voted for". I assume that excludes you and the (quite likely 40%-49%) of the people in their districts who did not vote for them.

Many elections are very close and nearly half the population is for the other guy. Blame the actual people who voted for the asshole, without lumping them together with the ones who fought hard AGAINST the asshole.
