There is this nut who believes that us evil liberals control the media. What arguments can I use to shut this idiot up?

then when he's done, if he can come up with any, start naming conservatives

3. Ask them if they have heard of rush, hannity, beck, et al

And that if the liberals controlled the media than why are those folks still on the air?

Some media has a liberal slant, some conservative.

OH - and ask them THIS: Who controls the churches? Liberals or conservatives? No one makes them watch the news media they are talking about, and no one makes me go to church (I don't btw). If they are such big believers in capitalism, why are they bitching about it??? Market drives it after all....

You can't convince someone mentally ill of something no matter how rational you are.

I say this as someone who used to be a flaming conservative nut job :) Been in that mindset, they over simplify things because their brains can't grasp the bigger concepts.

If you really want to try though, tell them to email me - been where they are and I can maybe help them. Doubt it though :)

...and how some media outlets are owned by companies who also own defense and investment firms. Then this winger might understand why our media never questioned Bush's lies.

7. I tell them they are right

There is the corporate "liberal" point of view, and the corporate "conservative" point of view and they are two sides to the same coin and both promote corporate interests. If you want to turn Republican voters into leftists, that is. If you want to side with the corporate "liberal" point of view, I don't have any suggestions as to how to convert people to that. That has more to do with fashion and style, and social status, than it does politics.
