The study: Over a seven-year period, researchers at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, studied 2,000 men and women ages 18 to 60, all of whom were in reasonably good health and well educated. The volunteers were asked to solve visual puzzles, recall words and story details and spot patterns in letters and symbols. These are similar to the tests used to diagnose mental disabilities and declines, including dementia.

Many "real world" jobs are much less mentally stimulating than college classes. I am 31 and mentally don't feel at the top of my game, but I blame it on my job and less intellectual associates. If I would have gone to graduate school and were doing real reseach, I think that I would be doing better. I try to read and do other mentally stimulating things during my off hours, but I don't have a huge amount of time.

I used to get furious when my hateful mother in law would gush over the wonderful SON she had (even though he married ME!), for always remebering her birthday, and mother's day..and for getting her the perfect gifts..:)
