Will Any Of You Miss the Pontiac Brand?

Maybe I'm just clinging to my past. The 70's and early 80's. Firebirds, Trans-Ams, GTO's.

I had a Sunbird. Nice little car that I drove off the road one rainy night in 1982 and ended up landing on a tree. Police officer told me that he didn't realize Sunbirds could fly.

But I digress.

My first car was a 1972 Plymouth Duster. I loved that car.

5. GTO Grand Prix Firebird.

Some of the greatest muscle cars ever were produced by Pontiac.I will sorely miss them.

miles out of before it starting having problems. no.

My brother has a classic GTO and my son rented one on his last trip and reported it was fantastic.

From a Chevy family here -- but am very sad to see Pontiac bite the dust.

21. No. It was a Pontiac that turned me Toyota loyal.

It was the 1970's and the car was brand new. It died a half mile from the dealership and had to be towed back. It continued to die periodically after that. We kept it less than a year.

It seems a little odd that Pontiac doesn't exist anymore. It always seems odd when a familiar brand name goes kaput (Eastern, Pan-Am, Oldsmobile, etc.) but I won't be giving it much thought. I'm too interested in keeping myself afloat to mourn Pontiac. Plus, I was never into the muscle car thing at all.

I can understand, though, and respect, your perspective giving you a much different take on the matter.

Actually, I don't understand how people can identify so much with a product, be it the Windows vs. Mac or the Ford vs. Dodge debates.

Cars, computers, shoes...these things are just tools.

I don't relate to them as anything else.

Long story short: No, I won't miss the Pontiac brand at all.

28. I bought a brand new 1982 Trans Am, and I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Followed by the cops every where and after a year it started to rattle. I felt terrible about it because my parents had a 1960 Catalina and 1965 Grand Prix, and I loved those cars.

Indestructible. It totaled a car, a truck, and destroyed the bumper on a tow truck. It ended its life when I recently sold it, for it to be used in a destruction derby.

38. Yes, I was just coming of age when I bonded with "Smokey and the Bandit." I developed

an obsession with the 1977 black Trans am to the extreme that I actually had dreams about that car, and I always told my father that one day, if I ever had enough money, I would get one. All I wanted in the world when I was thirteen years old was to be The Bandit... Dumb, I know.

But all these years later, I have had an array of utilitary, functional and un-exciting cars: hand-me-down Pacer and Ford Grenada, Toyota Camera, Toyota Rav 4...

I can live without the Trans Am, but it's a symbolic defeat for me. At a time in my life when I could finally get one, the brand is squashed, and the price of oil is (not now, but ultimately) speeding skywards.

But I share your nostalgia for the brand, definitely!
