Leave it to former Republican Congressman Bob Barr to put the obvious on the media's lips.

CNN has the scoop:

“The Republican Party is in very deep trouble right now,” Barr said in an interview with CNN.

Barr, who was once a loyal soldier in the GOP, joined the Libertarian Party in 2006 and was the party’s presidential candidate in 2008.

Is one of my candidates to replace the GOP. If things keep going badly for them they might try the name change to cover up the rotting corpse they left.

The free market people could find a home in the Libertarian Party, while the religious crazies could end up with the Constitution Party.

6. We're much closer to multi-party democracy than we think.

I can see the Rethug party withering away to a fringe right wing party, and the Democratic party splitting into centrist and democratic socialist parties.

Multi-party democracy is exactly what this country needs.

Then again, the thing the GOP capitalizes on the most is the fact that there are people in America who are both free-marketers and religious nuts.

8. The GOP could be about to become the permanent opposition party

Too much of the party elected official base is big-government, globalist in nature, yet much of the voting membership would prefer less government and does not feel that the interests of the Fortune 100 should come before that of citizens.

I consider politics in the US a dead topic in terms of change from the status quo unless something totally out of whack happens.
