http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090502/NEWS/905020318CITY OF NEWBURGH — There were so many of them.
A witness told police some 20 young men joined in on the attack on 34-year-old Tyrik Legette Thursday on Lander Street. Legette's uncle, Roy Legette, had heard the number was 15.
They stabbed Legette again and again on his chest and back. Two punctures pierced his heart, and that's what killed him, police said. It was still light outside, just after 6:30 p.m. The attackers ran in all directions when it was over.
City detectives collected several pieces of evidence and spoke to witnesses Thursday night, police said Friday. They had no motive but were pursuing several leads. There were no arrests.
Residents of Newburgh's East End had heard rumors of a young set of cross-town Bloods. The emphasis was on young because of the large numbers of assailants — the theory being that kids attack in groups because they lack the physical power of adults.
