If you mean "is the hyperlink in the document good only for linking to another section of the document, or can it also link to something outside of the document", then the answer is "Yes, it can be used to link to a place outside the document, whether email, URL, ftp, file location, and so forth".

first of all what version of word are you using? Office 2003 or 2007. They are two totally different creatures. Also what are you trying to accomplish. please excuse the typos, ambien kicking in and having a rough time concentrating. One issue is editing out the links so they do not include say your email as a header and just link to the site you are intending go send your readers towards

5. windows xp
its for a research paper and some of the memos to include are superior court briefs (some are 40 pages long) so i can either send the reader to the site or include it at the end with a heading so she can jump straight to the topic at the end of the paper. Either will do. thanks

3. You can link to web sites
Two ways to do it:

1. Copy a URL. Go to Insert menu/Hyperlink.....
Paste the url in the box

or

2. Highlight some ordinary text. Insert menu/Hyperlink.....
Type a web address in the box

4. Yes
If you go Insert>Hyperlink, you should see a choice of "place in this document" or "existing file or webpage" on the dialog.
