Let's sting a reporter for playing stupid games with Al Gore--

I'm doing something I wouldn't ordinarily do--I'm creating an OP that piggybacks off somebody else's thread. I'm doing this because I'm hoping to trigger a specific action on the part of people on this board.

Associated Press reporter Laurie Kellman, on Al Gore's appearance before a House committee considering global warming legislation:

"I have read all 648 pages of this bill," Gore bragged, a boast that would surprise no one who caught his teacher's-pet performance in the 2000 presidential race. "It took me two transcontinental flights on United Airlines to finish it."

The schoolhouse metaphor is appropriate, if not for the reason Kellman thinks. There are perhaps only two groups of people who view knowledge as a flaw, and ignorance as an asset: Seventh-graders, and the Washington press corps.

For years leading up to the 2000 presidential election, Al Gore committed the sins of taking policy seriously, and of knowing what he was talking about. As punishment for those sins, reporters like Kellman mocked him as a "teacher's-pet" and a dull, lifeless buffoon. They propped up a dim-witted Texan (by way of Greenwich Country Day, Andover, Harvard, and Yale) who had run business after business into the ground, and skipped out on the National Guard service that kept him out of Vietnam by virtue of his father's accomplishments. On the other hand, he called reporters "Stretch," and they loved him for it. And so George W. Bush became president.

and finally, here is a link to a thread where you can go to rate the reporter's credibility. At this moment, there are only about 100 total votes on it, and she has a 99% credible rating. Every vote we put on it will make a perceptible difference, and will get the attention of her editors. Let's go for it.

There's a photo going around that if you're in, or interested in politics, you've seen by now. It's this one on the left taken at Monday's State Of The Union Adress and appears to show Senator Barack Obama turning his back on Senator Clinton as she's shaking Senator Kennedy's hand. Now that photo was taken by J. Scott Applewhite of the Associated Press and was used as the focus of a "story" written by LAURIE KELLMAN of the same AP. The photos been copied again and again, and Obama accused of snubbing Hillary Clinton.

Well, there's two main problems. First, that's not the only photo and there's one with a different angle -- in fact several and all by Getty Images and not the Associated Press.

Second, when I called Laurie Kellman to ask her why she didn't look at photos that show a clapping Senator Obama in communication with Sen. Claire McKaskill, who endorsed him, she didn't return my calls, and I phoned her three times. On top of that, the AP reporter I did talk to seemed to think it was Kellman's right to tell the story the way she did, which is journalistically unprofessional.

This photo on the right shows Senator Obama clapping and looking at Claire McKaskill, who is also obviously turning and looking at Barack Obama, and this is while Senator Kennedy has reached over to Senator Clinton. So it's clear that Senator Obama was indeed distracted by Senator Claire McKaskill while Senator Clinton reached over.More:

Although I fear that people who pay her for her "reporting" will see this for what it is: a sting by a group of lefties, and won't believe the message we're sending, that she is a biased "reporter" and should be flipping burgers somewhere. The fact that her ratings are going back up makes me suspicious. They're probably getting a bunch of repukes to jump on the bandwagon and rate her back up.

I DO think it's a good idea to do this, Jackpine. But I have gotten so cynical. I am extremely frustrated at how tone-deaf those people are. If you try to tell them something that is not in their belief set, they simply choose not to believe it. After all, LEFTIES said Laurie Kellman is not credible, and you know how out of touch those lefties are. :banghead:
