The theme that Joe came back to several times during this (interminable) 3 hours is regarding the future of the Republican Party. He seems dismayed at the nastiness and vitriol on the radio especially. It was a "PLEASE STOP SCARING THE KIDS" kind of message he was putting out there. He said that Reagan was well "right" of the populace when he was Pres., but that the tone and {i]temperament was, you know "just right".
He got Sen. Shelby to agree with him.. Will Shelby have to apologize to Rush now?
Mike Barnicle fingered Newt as the origin of the nasty "we don't defeat our opponents, we destroy our enemies" attitude of the Repug party during the resurgence...
The other political talk was about the SC nomination. Joe said "elections have consequences", the thinks the RW should "pick their battles" and that they won't win this one if they go full bore.
Todd repeated his assertion that this pick will be an "Identity pick" (to satisfy the minority/woman wing of the party, I guess.. ).. Since Souter wasn't a "leader" and the make up of the ideology of th Court won't change and Obama doesn't want a big fight on this pick since he'll probably have maybe 3 more. . etc etc. When he replaces STEVENS, now that'll be a much bigger deal since Stevens is such a leader and persuader..etc etc etc
They seem to really WANT this to be an ID Politics pick... It seems to be the story the press is telling itself these days..
There didn't seem to me to be much new in the way of talking points. But then again, it's Monday.
