Diaper change in the East Room of the White House (PIC)

1. That pic was posted here at DU within seconds of it being taken, I think.

New mothers should know that others don't want to see/hear/smell them changing their baby's diaper.

I used to work in retail, and the mother changed her baby's diaper in my store, and left the DIRTY DIAPER on a display in the back of the store! :mad:

I was in the stock room, the door to which was in the back of the store. When I came out, the smell was disgusting. As I walked toward the front of the store, I crossed paths with a sales associate who was heading toward the back. He stopped and said, "What stinks back here?" I told him I had no idea, and he said, "I wonder if that lady with the baby is responsible..."

He had seen her looking at one of the displays, and sure enough, right there on top was the dirty diaper! I went right out into the mall to tell her she needed to come back and REMOVE HER TRASH from my store. She acted like I was out of line by telling her to come back and deal with her baby's dirty diaper. Security saw the conversation, and ordered the woman to retrieve the diaper.

The woman was furious with me. She said she'd never shop in the store again. I told her we appreciated that.

Security advised her that no store in the mall would appreciate her soiling displays in such a manner, and that all mall rest rooms were equipped with stations to change diapers.

I realize it's natural, but really... :eyes:

putting her baby atop it, and then reading Sasha's homework aloud.

that changing a diaper on a historic, velvet-covered bench might not be appropriate.

Breast feeding, no problem. But this activity really *does* belong in the bathroom.

8. I'm not even a parent, but I know enough to...

...scope out or ask where suitable changing areas are when you have small kids and babies at a public event... or anywhere, really, outside the home.

(uncle to 7, and paying attention for the day I join the club).

That woman is an idiot. Diaper changing shouldn't be done in any home your a guest in on furniture - especially the white house. If she needed to change the diaper I'm sure someone would have helped her find a clean spot to do it.

We saw a woman change a baby's diaper on a tabletop ten feet from our table at the Woodinville, WA, Red Robin about five years ago. I am still amazed that anyone would be so stupid.

I'm sure the White House has a very nice bathroom that would be much more appropriate for that activity. :eyes:
