One of the reasons I voted for Obama is that I think he has the skills to make that happen...to help all Americans see issues from other peoples' perspectives. All of us have more in common than that which divides us. Obama's message of empathy...with the hope of unity... is VERY important for the country.
Bill Clinton used to say (paraphrasing) that our differences and diversity should be viewed as a source of strength in our country. He said we need to come to a place where we can honor our differences, but realize that our common humanity matters more.
I think he was EXACTLY right. And it is time to bring it out in the open, and then move beyond it. JMHO.
