We get the print issue and I was leafing through it, looking at names and the ones who profiled them. And the whole thing is one happy self congratulatory affair.
We have someone profiles Oprha who, in turn, profiles Michelle Obama.
J.K. Rowling - of the Harry Potter fame - profiles Gordon Brown who, in turn, profiles Barack Obama.
Tim Geithner profiles France's Christine Lagarde and someone else profiles Geithner.
Arnold profiles Ted Kennedy??
I love Hillary Clinton, but how many "candidates" were there for the Secretary of State category?
Even strangers, how many Chancellors - besides Angela Merkel - how many FDIC Chairs - Sheila Blair - and how many President of Rwanda - Paul Kagame - are there? The latter was profiles by Rick Warren who, of course, was profiled by someone else.
T, Boone Pickens profiles Ted Turner who, in turn, profiles... T. Boone Pickens.
OK, James Carville and Mary Matalin profile Brad Pitt in the category of Philanthropy. The New Orleans connection.
Gwyneth Paltrow profiles Stella McCartney (Paul's daughter) in Fashion designer.
Glenn Beck profiles the Limpdick and Ann Coulter profiles Sarah Palin. Yeah, right.
And all this is explained, of course, by Mayor Bloomberg profiling The View Ladies in the Talk Show Host category. Because most of us do not watch TV all day and if we are at home, we probably do not watch the View. Or Ellen. But CNN and MSNBC and Olbermann and Jay Leno and Jon Stewart and the rest of them have to fill time and reporting on each other is what they do. A few weeks ago Jon Stewart was having fun with George Stephanopoulos show and the following Sunday, that segment was part of the "Sunday Funnies."
I sometimes watch several hours of CNN and/or MSNBC and yet, it is the news print that we get each morning that tells me the real news, not what get regurgitated by the supposedly "all news all the time." And it is in this atmosphere that the "View Ladies" are considered among TIME World's Most Influential People.
I doubt that workers on the floor of, say, Ford, or any other manufacturing plant - the ones that are still there - have time to watch the View. Or any other day show. And they must wonder who the "View Ladies" are and why are they so influential. In the whole wide world.
