Has anyone been disappointed with Hillary Clinton as Secretary Of State so far?
Almost seems like she found her calling to me. She seems so happy too.

What do you think?

4. Only with her statements about the Taliban in Pakistan.
They have about as much chance of taking over Pakistan as the skinheads have of taking over the U.S. :eyes:

35. I think a better analogy would be that they have as much chance of taking over Pakistan as the
skinheads have of taking over Russia.
I lived there for a few years and while they would never take over, they do terrorize any immigrants or Russian citizens with Central Asian or Caucasian (ie. Georgian or Azerbaijani) features.
The general Russian population is pretty indifferent to the violent and sometimes murderous actions of the skinheads.
They may not condone these actions, but they claim to understand the sentiment behind them.
Even the most liberal Russian people I know sort of shake their heads and shrug it off.
They are most definitely not outraged nor do they consider participating in any sort of protests against the comically inept mishandling of these cases by the police.

My point is that it seems that while the Taliban couldn't really take over the entire nation of Pakistan, their comfortable presence there can further a very anti-Democratic sentiment in the general public that may lead to more serious problems that threaten the region and, eventually, the United States.
Never mind the damage done to women and secular people.
Do these "ifs" and possibilities justify forceful actions against the Taliban in Pakistan?
Personally, I don't think so, but I do see the issue as a bit more complicated then whether or not the Taliban can completely takeover.
I'm sure we can both agree that its a messed up situation all around and regardless of how we handle it, many innocent people will needlessly suffer.

10. She's doing great. In different circumstances she would have been a great president too.
I think she got written off because she was Bill Clintons wife, there was this idea that she was JUST Bill Clintons wife. In reality though she's quite a wonk. I think Bill wanted to marry somebody he could match wits with, and that's Hillary.

she's handling herself and the job very nicely, although I don't quite know what she's done, which is probably - diplomatically speaking - a very good thing.

14. my only "disappointment"
and this has NOTHING to do with the outstanding job Sec of State Clinton is doing--I've been approved to take the Foreign Service exam..but I'm in the middle of preparing for the Naval officer exam :-(

Man, I'd love to be working with her as the top person! but that's fine, I'm sure there'll be more test dates later in the year.

37. thank you!!!
I didn't know you had to be approved just to take the exam  oh well, I'll take it at a later date. If I were to confirm for the next test period and not show up,I'd be hit with a $50 charge. And I don't blame them, because it takes alot of time and effort to get thee test sessions up and running.

18. I like her activism
I've been disappointed with the nonsense the administration is selling about Iran's 'dangerous' influence in Latin America and the State Dept.'s emphasis on Iran's oil in their objections. Her rhetoric has been strident at times and the policy seems to be degenerating into more of a posture than any real expectation of normalizing relations, especially in the way they're already waving around the prospect of sanctions. It stinks of empire and a cheap attempt to marginalize Iran based on economic concerns using the 'threats' of an unproven nuclear weapons program as pretext.

Still too much of the jingoistic old language seeping in from her department for me, but, overall, I think she's performed competently and with her signature efficiency and style.

attention to everything, and if intelligence comes across her desk that says "Osama determined to strike the U.S.", you can rest assured she won't ignore it, unlike that last person who had the job.

After Obama and Holder, she's got to be the hardest working person in our government.

24. I've never been a Clinton apologist, and I have to admit I was
skeptical (which was undeserved and unfair) that she would be able to refrain from politicizing this appointment.

I was wrong.

I have the utmost respect and gratitude for Sec. Clinton because her handling of this office has been nothing but exemplary. I'm personally thrilled because I can laud and support her fully and without hesitation, something I used to feel uncomfortable in not being able to do so.

As far as I'm concerned, my past feelings carry no weight, and I have so much admiration for this woman/person/politician/public servant because SHE is one of the few in this new administration who have not caused a flurry of discord or been the focus of diversionary rumor and gossip - she has simply taken responsibility for her post, hit the ground running and been impervious to the nonsense that isn't relevant to her very crucial work.

She's absolutely fantastic and clearly proving that she has the highest degree of cred, skills, knowledge, experience and intangible qualities that make her great rather than good.

She's bloody superb, and Obama would be better served if he had more in his cabinet of her caliber.

30. Not here. I think she's one of the best we've had in...
many years. She hit the ground running and is an incredibly quick study.

And she does love the job-- seems like what she needs is keeping busy at something worthwhile, and State is just the job to do that.

31. I don't know about the "calling" part.
I think that she would be a great president and I hope that she tries again after Obama's term is up.

Although she is enjoying the challenges of her new job and the morale at State has improved much, staffers are happier than when Condi ran the place.
