The GOP will oppose whoever Obama picks for SCOTUS.
They don't care who it will be. He could pick a former Republican Senator like Hagel, doesn't matter. They need to block it. They need the "win". They need to show their base and their backers that they are not the impotent, inane, clueless posers that they are.
They will filibuster and then try to win the PR battle in the media (who will happily repeat all their talking points with out)to scare a few Blue Dog Dems into supporting the filibuster.
It will be in Obama and Reids' court to not give in.

1. The only way the GOP can survive is to work with Obama for the good of the American people.
If they do not do the right thing, they will not survive
as a party.

3. Yeah and when that happens, pigs will come flying out of my backend
not holding my breathe on that one.

The GOP and especially the senate subscribe to an ideological purity that will turn them into dinosaurs.

6. Yes they are on a path to self destruction. And in a hell of their own making.
Karma time.

2. naturally
The party out of power always does this.

I was reading an article the other day that listed contested Supreme Court nominations all the way back the late 1700's.

The only thing that has changed is the hair styles.

Its ok though. We're going to win this round.

7. So why not nominate a real liberal instead of a center-reich sellout? No pukes will support anyone
he names. And some Dems will also oppose.

There is nothing to be gained by compromising on this. What would be lost is a chance to make a real change on the court.

But, we will probably get a DINO to balance out Scalia and the other fascists.

8. You are probably right.
And that's what's frustrating. They will oppose ANYONE!!! So make a good choice and to hell with them.
I hope it's not Lucy and the football all over again.
