By The Associated Press – 13 mins ago

As of Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at least 4,284 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

The figure includes eight military civilians killed in action. At least 3,440 military personnel died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is two fewer than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 179 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia and Georgia, three each; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand and Romania, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan and South Korea, one death each.

2. It's called good editing.
Since the report was not about Iraqis, it correctly contained no mention of them.

3. yes, it only includes 19 other countries besides the US
yes, i realize those are "collation" personnel. I think the point is made.

"The British military has reported 179 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia and Georgia, three each; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand and Romania, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan and South Korea, one death each"

7. It appears that the point of the article was military deaths.
However, you are correct in that the media constantly chooses wrongly on what to report on and what to skip. There should have been accompanying articles that gave a broader picture.

4. That is a major problem
Simply put, they don't want us to even think about it. After all, since we claim to have invaded and occupied Iraq partly to bring democracy to the Iraqis, how believable would that be if people knew that we killed hundreds of thousands of them and made refugees of more than 4 million?

5. thanks
I was beginning to think my point was about as obscure as the number of Iraqi military killed in the invasion.

6. If they allow Americans to think about dead, wounded or displaced Iraqis
it's harder to keep getting money out of us.

The war industry reminds me of a teenager asking to borrow my car. They want the keys quick before I ask too many questions.
