2. That reminds me of something from "Stranger in a Strange Land"

If you aren't familiar with the book, a child is born en-route to Mars and is the only survivor when the ship crashes. He is raised by Martians and a subsequent mission finds him and returns him to Earth. He has absolutely no concept of humor as this is not part of the Martian culture.

One day at the zoo, he observes a large chimp come over to a smaller one and beat the shit out of him. After wimpering for a bit, the abused chimp gets up, goes over to an even smaller chimp and gives him a var worse pummeling. At this point, the guy laughs for the first time - he finally understood humor.

Personally, I view it more as understanding irony, but that's a part of humor.

4. I'm not really sure how to respond to that.

I'm saddened that you've never met them, but I was basically just recounting the part of the story related to bullying and how it propagates socially. I hope that didn't offend you.

6. I voted "never" even though I know at least one person who claimed to have bullied me.

"Hey, everyone! I recognize this guy. I used to bully him when we were kids!"

"So let me get this straight, when you were 15 and I was 10, you'd knock me on my ass, I'd stand back up and tell you to fuck off, and you consider that 'bullying' me?"

"Yes."

"Huh? You see, I didn't really consider myself bullied as long as you failed to shut me up. At any rate, I'm no longer a ten year old standing up to a fifteen year old. Care to try knocking me down right now?"

7. I get bullied by bullies here on DU all the time. It's no big deal to me. I could care less.
