Statue of Liberty Crown to Reopen July 4
Source: AP

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar says the crown of the Statue of Liberty will be reopened July 4.

Salazar made the announcement Friday morning in the statue's crown on NBC's "Today."

Salazar has been reviewing a feasibility study to determine whether the crown of the nearby Statue of Liberty should be reopened to tourists.

The statue in New York Harbor was closed to the public after 9/11 because of security concerns although the base, pedestal and lower observation deck have since been reopened.

3. The crew of the Today Show were up in the crown with Salazar, the view was stunning.
As a child, on a school outing, I went up to the crown. I couldn't appreciate it then because I was involved in a near serious accident. The child in front of me slipped on the stairs on the way up and fell down on me. Since then I've had a fear of stairs. Going back down those stairs felt like an eternity. The staircase was metal and narrow and twisty.

As a young adult I went back with some friends and couldn't do the climb. I had a full blown panic attack.
