Anti choicers vandalize abortion doctor's clinic - again

WICHITA, Kan. | A Kansas abortion provider has asked the FBI to investigate vandalism at his Wichita clinic. The clinic is operated by George Tiller, one of the few doctors nationwide who performs late-term abortions. Tiller’s attorney, Dan Monnat, said Friday that the Women’s Health Care Services clinic was damaged May 1. Monnat said vandals cut the wires to outdoor lights and surveillance cameras at the clinic. With rain in the weather forecast, they also sliced through about 200 feet of the roof and plugged up the downspouts. Monnat said rain poured into the clinic and caused thousands of dollars of damage.

Rachelle Ranae "Shelley" Shannon (born 1956) is a pro-life activist, saboteur and gunman from Grants Pass, Oregon. She assaulted Dr. George Tiller outside his abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas on August 19, 1993, shooting him in both arms.<1><2><3> She is serving time in FCI Dublin.<4> Her projected release date is November 7, 2018.

At the time she attacked Tiller, Shannon had been a pro-life activist for five years and had written letters of support to Michael Griffin, who murdered David Gunn. She called Griffin "the awesomest, greatest hero of our time." She traveled to the Wichita clinic, a site of frequent demonstrations by abortion-rights and pro-life activists, and shot Tiller with a semiautomatic pistol.<5> Pro-life activists at the Wichita clinic immediately condemned her use of violence.<1>

At her trial in state court, she testified that there was nothing immoral about trying to kill Tiller. She also admitted that she had attempted to make bail in order to carry out arson attacks at abortion clinics. The jury deliberated for only an hour before convicting Shannon of attempted murder; she was sentenced to 11 years.<5><6>

Shannon signed the Army of God's statement in support of the actions of Paul Jennings Hill while incarcerated in Lansing, Kansas. <7>

On June 4, 1995, she pled guilty to setting fires at several abortion clinics in Oregon, California, Idaho and Nevada. She had been indicted by federal grand juries on 30 counts in connection with fires at nine clinics. Charges included arson, interference with commerce by force and interstate travel in aid of racketeering.<8><9> On September 9, 1995, U.S. Federal District Court Judge James Redden pronounced Shannon's sentence for these crimes. Departing upward from the applicable federal sentencing guidelines, the Court sentenced Shannon to 20 years in prison, saying "Though I am loath to call anyone a terrorist, you are a terrorist." The sentence was set to begin only after Shannon's ten-year incarceration for shooting Tiller is completed.<[br />

This destruction of women's clinics has been going on for decades, destroying access

to care for women -- including abortion. Tremendous amount of expensive damage done as

well.
