C-SPAN.org will start showing the arrival of the guests at
6:00 p.m. and then at 8:00 the regular C-SPAN coverage will begin for the WH Correspondents Dinner.. I mention this because I do want to see the arrivals and thought they would be on TV, but via computer until 8:00. It's like the Academy Awards of D.C. waiting to see the A Listers vs. the rest of them. I want to see who's wearing what, who's with whom. Gawd, I need a life. You know what's sad? Ten years ago I wouldn't be able to name two of these people, tonight I could do commentary.

See y'all later.

1. Join me .....
Today, we can celebrate our non-lives together.

Thank you VERY much for the tip - I love this stuff, but never saw the attendees arriving, so this will be fun.

I know MSNBC is covering it, but that's starting at 9.

Sit up straight - let us ready our critiques ............

Howard Dean, Rachel Maddow.

Dean has been invited the last few years, but now he is out of party leadership so I guess he does not count.

Olbermann on the list, so is Ed. I did not see Rachel.

How big is your box?

she didn't understand, so the caller repeated:

How big is your box?

I was listening, and wasn't sure what was said the first time.....

living on Highland Street in Arlington at the time.....a block north of Rt. 50. a block away from my favorite chickenhawk cum self-proclaimed Shakespeare scholar Ken Adelman, who supposedly, and unaccounably, voted for Barack last year.

33. I once required a shot of a diuretic
after I dined at Whitey's and then caught a flight to LA.

I retained so much water - that chicken was SALTY! - that a doctor had to be called immediately. I couldn't make a fist.

Still, it was a great joint. I used to be able to park right around the corner and wander in, have a beer, watch a ballgame. Great old place. The neighborhood is frighteningly predictable.

I used to be able to go visit my friend at the OEB - in my car- and drive in and park there! Can you imagine? Now, you can hardly walk there without a military escort.

It's not improved ......................

Small animals also are having a very bad time this year because of the oak pollen.

I live a few miles outside of DC in College Park.

it reads even better than it showed, in a way, although the audience's lack of response to Colbert's savage brilliance is a show in itself

reminded me of Woody Allen's address to the audience in Banana's, as the leader of San Marcos, whose chief export was.....locusts!

Colbert won me forever, if only because he proved he had the biggest balls in the world.

Remember that great photograph of Chimpy sitting there, and you can see that it's just beginning to dawn on him what Colbert is doing?

Absolutely wonderful. We'll never have a moment like that again.

Remember his video skit with Helen Thomas?

That Woody Allen clip was priceless - such a perfect NY moment: his foot kicking the crutch out of his space ................

Edited on Sat May-09-09 04:38 PM by Gabi Hayes
pretty apolitical, focusing mostly on the obvious

Colbert's was a clear slap in the face to the naked emperor and his obsequious, sycophantic court

''Because really, what incentive do these people have to answer your questions, after all? I mean, nothing satisfies you. Everybody asks for personnel changes. So the White House has personnel changes. Then you write, "Oh, they're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This administration is not sinking. This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg! ''

36. True. I used to LOVE to watch this on C-Span. I think GWB's film of
the search for WMDs and David Gregory's dance with Rove killed it for me.

Going from the hilarious film "The Last Days of the Clinton Presidency" to GWB's search for WMD was too much for me.

I know some news organizations are now opting out of it.

I really enjoyed hearing Tony Kornheiser discuss it the next day. Michael Wilbon and him.

They should have made Al Franken the emcee this year!

Looks like he's gathering a reel to show to Ms. Fawcett, as well as doing a bit on her documentary.

Maudlin, I know. But Ms. Fawcett chooses to die publicly and maybe she can educate people on this common human experience.
