Media let GOP change the subject in torture debate
http://mediamatters.org/research/200905090006

May 09, 2009 6:05 pm ET

SUMMARY: Adopting the GOP's emphasis on what Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats knew about the Bush administration's use of harsh interrogation techniques, some in the media have ignored evidence that the Bush administration began using the tactics before briefing Democrats, and that upon learning of them, Rep. Jane Harman unsuccessfully expressed concerns to the CIA.

3. Indeed, Sir
There are a great many here who feel abandoned by some of the sentiments expressed on this board.

2. That way it breaks down into relativism/'no one's fault' per se if one view is as good as another

5. To be fair, Democrats never stood up to GWB in public trying to
get public support against the war. They left the impression they
supported GWB and the war. It was 2006 after the public had turnedf
before the Dems on the Hill started to speak out in any way.

This is the loophole they left the GOP the room to drive a Mac Truck
through. This makes it impossible for them to try to punish Republicans
for something they appeared to support themselves.

8. Are you familiar with a fellow by the name of Max Cleland?
If not try Googling his name and see what happened to him when he "stood up", against the Bush administration.

9. Don, here is what I have observed over the years.
The only reason the GOP gets the Media attention is:
Watch them. AS a large group they will come out and go after
whatever it is with which they disagree. This creates the impression
they are united and they will fight you. Strength.

They plan strategies and agree on talking points. Therefore when
they come on TV , they appear knowlegeable whether they are or not.

They speak in firm voices even angry mean voices---do not mess with
us. Some may say they bully. Even so they still get what they want.

They insist on Unity when it comes to serious issues in their party.

They give a take charge impression at all times.

Therefore, whether we like it or not they have over the years
created the impression they are better leaders and the Media
has bought into their act.

I am Liberal who finds it frustrating that we cannot get 2 Democrats
on the same page much of the time.

Democrats unfortunately come across as willing to be bullied.

In our party right now on serious issues, there are Dems who will
not vote for Obama's legislation. To the Media , this is weakness.

Had our party come out as a group early on and spoke with one loud
strong and if neccessary angry voice, the Media may have listened.

I am no apologist for the Media. They have done a sorry job explaining
to the American People what is going on in our country. It is easier
cover car chases and let pictures of fires burn for ever than have
serious programming.

In conclusion , Don, we are probably more alike than different.

10. I still don't understand that argument.
Even if you accept it, all it means is that a few of the criminals who need to be tried have a (D) at the end of their name. It doesn't change anything.
