I Hope The MSM Keeps Playing Wanda's Limbaugh Joke Over & Over
They're foaming at the mouth at how over the top it was. Well here's a news flash for them. Most of the country doesn't like him, not a plurality but a big, as fat as he is, majority. I'm glad she used the word traitor. Somebody finally said that someone who wishes for his country to fail is a traitor. I hope millions hear that joke!

1. It will be interesting to see how the Big Fat Idiot takes it. Will he be poutraged, or will he
be pleased that he's "important" enough to be mentioned at the event?

5. It might be that the MSM are cowards and really want to rub Limbaugh's nose in it
Edited on Sun May-10-09 10:39 AM by lunatica
by pretending it was so over the top that he can't possibly ignore it. The media has been known to stir the pot once or twice...

:sarcasm:

I bet Rush can't stand to be laughed at. Especially when he has to figure out why everyone is laughing.

His idea of funny is to make spastic crazed flailing movements with his arms while imitating Michael J. Fox with his illness.

9. Well, she touched a couple of Third Rails--first, she made fun of a rightwinger--that's
been verboten for the last eight years. Second, her joke involved NAHN WUN WUN (terra, terra, terra!!!! Be AFRAID!! Run!!! Hide!! Where's the duct tape?). And after all, people DIED on Nahn Wun Wun, therefore we must be in a perpetual state of seriousness and sombre aspect when we discuss that topic--per the rightwing, because they use it like a sword over our heads. She not only called Limpballs a nitwit, she called him an incompetent terrorist hijacker--an incompetent terrorist hijacker who was so high on street-bought prescription meds that he couldn't even make it to his gig!

It was a joke rich with nuance, rich with several layers and levels of insult--and packaged beautifully. By the time you opened your mouth to gasp with glee, she was on to the next riff.

I've always thought Miss Sykes was one of the finest talents of the last couple of decades. She has yet to find a vehicle that is truly worthy of her skills, but her stand-up is a killa.

11. She cleaned up her language for the Correspondent's dinner and actually held back
Do you ever watch her on HBO? She can really let loose and the result is that you laugh so hard your sides hurt.

14. A modern day LaWanda Page
That "Aunt Esther" character was VERY cleaned up from the routines she used to do in comedy clubs with Redd Foxx.

17. Of course she cleaned up her language--she wasn't born in a barn, after all!
She understands the DC life and how to play the game--her father was a colonel who worked in the Pentagon, after all.

She read the room and played it just right.

I have watched her HBO "filmed live" comedy show (Sick-n-Tired) as well as her recurring role on Larry David's show and many of her film appearances. I haven't seen her on the Julia Louis Dreyfuss show--I just don't do sitcoms. She had a brief network series that tanked for a lot of reasons--mainly that it wasn't the right venue for her (I could never find it, either), as well as one on Comedy Central that I thought was pretty good but didn't make it.

She's a brilliant comedian and an equally brilliant writer--Chris Rock owes much of his success to her pen. She's a very smart writer, as well as a topical one.

2. By playing it over and over, they are reaching a whole
lot of people who wouldn't even know she said it in the first place. Now they can enjoy it too.

16. And that sweetly innocent "Too much?" at the end was great
Having Wanda Sykes speak at that thing took rare courage. She always manages to tell it like it is. She's easily the funniest woman out there.

Yeah, Lardblah's reaction should be great. I don't know whether he'll pout over the "traitor" or bellow with wounded pride over the "strung out on oxycontin" or both, but it won't work.

The damage has been done and she did it masterfully.

18. That's a nod to Johnny Carson, actually.
Edited on Sun May-10-09 12:56 PM by MADem
Periodically, Carson would tell a Lincoln assassination joke, something along the lines of the old "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" chestnut. Invariably, the audience would groan. Carson would then slyly ask "Too soon?"--a hundred or more years after the event.

Nowadays, we don't spend a lot of time rehashing history before it becomes fodder for comedy, for a made-for-TV (or silver screen) movie, or for other "dramatizations" of all sorts. In the old days, you'd wait till someone was dead before someone played them on film--that's not the case anymore.

ETA-spelling repair.

4. That Fat Pig Is Paid $37,500,000.00 Per Year To Call 60% of Americans Traitors
That bastard needs to be brought to his knees and disemboweled each and every day of his life.

His brand of divisiveness is more harmful than Osama bin Laden could ever have dreamed of.

6. If Rush insists on dishing it out, he should be prepared to take it.
Wanda is one of the few that has the "nerve" to go after him.

The kidney remark could have been left out, as the oxycontin part brought the zing to him.

No matter, I got a great laugh out of her performance.

12. Wanda probably wants Rush to go after her.
She's fearless and would probably take him on with gusto. I would love to see him try to get back at her. She could do a whole comedy routine on him alone.

8. Did she say anything that was untrue?

OxyRush IS a traitor for almost everything he says on the air every day but for the "I want the President to fail"
statement in particular. Too bad Wanda didn't mention his sex weekends in the Dominican Republic with 'the boys'.

13. If Kidney Disease Took Out Limbaugh and Bin Laden
Then kidney disease would be more successful in bringing down terrorists than the Bush administration.

is far more important to him. I doubt he'll even mention Sykes...
