Seymour Hersh: Cheney "left a stay behind" in Obama's government...
I've been looking and looking for any comments by Seymour Hersh since the release of the torture memos several weeks ago. Nothing. However, I just stumbled upon this NPR interview from the end of March which has no doubt been posted here at DU previously. I thought given Cheney's extreme visibility of late, this Hersh interview may be viewed with a new perspective.

Perhaps one of the many reasons he's suddenly so visible is to remind others still ensconced in government and beholden to him that he is very much on the scene. A clear and present danger.

In an interview on NPR’s Fresh Air yesterday, host Terry Gross asked investigative journalist Seymour Hersh if, as he continues to investigate the Bush administration, “more people” were “coming forward” to talk to him now that “the president and vice president are no longer in power.” Hersh replied that though “a lot of people that had told me in the last year of Bush, ‘call me next, next February,’ not many people had talked to him. He implied that they were still scared of Cheney.

“Are you saying that you think Vice President Cheney is still having a chilling effect on people who might otherwise be coming forward,” asked Gross. “I’ll make it worse,” answered Hersh, adding that he believes Cheney “put people back” in government to “stay behind” in order to “tell him what’s going on” and perhaps even “do sabotage”.

1. Excuse me but DUH.
The very idea Dick and gang will ever stop as long as even one of them is still alive is pretty naive IMHO.

3. Duh indeed....
but I've been wondering why he's EVERYWHERE. I hadn't thought about this aspect of it. A warning to his moles that he's watching.

And, anytime someone like Hersh comes out and states something we at DU feel is obvious, I'm still relieved it's being said somewhere outside of DU.

:)

5. Well
I think it's not only a warning to both the current Admin and to the moles, but it's, I think, also a case of getting the media to look at the shiny object over here so no one is paying attention to whatever he and his "friends" are destroying next.

2. Seymour Hersch got an honorary degree along with Biden today
as did several other great folks. I was thinking Hersch should have left with Biden and the Secret Service. Hope he stays safe.

4. Harry Shearer did a "Dick Cheney: Confidential (confidential, confidential)"
segment today on this very subject.

His web site won't be updated until tomorrow, though, so no link.

6. In Justice, DoD, and DHS, I'd guess.
There are still some 'true believers' beholden to The Big Dick.

He has the dirt on them and they won't say a peep about anything until he's room temperature.

8. No love for Cheney at the CIA.
They are still unhappy about the Plame outing, and that started a huge rift in the administration.

18. What's taking so damn long, then?
Sure, we all want the payback to be perfect, but it's the CIA for Dog's sake. How long is it going to take for them to come up with a plan that keeps him alive, but in and out of court, under house arrest and, eventually, incarcerated for the rest of his miserable life?

9. Seymour Hersh's word is about as "good as gold" as it gets.
I think a campaign to pressure the Obama administration to ferret out Cheney's moles would be appropriate. This is the upshot of whatever "Deal" was put on the "table" when impeachment was taken off of it, likely to immunuze the Bush Junta principles from prosecution, I suspect in exchange for not nuking Iran and not declaring martial law and suspending elections here (and maybe getting rid of Rumsfeld--circa Nov-Dec '06): We have to put up with this mass murderer and master thief on TV.

:puke:

11. Of course Cheney/Bush have moles! Back in mid-2002, I even posted about ...
... an evening I spent with a DOE insider where we discussed the political hacks 'hired' in senior GS positions even then. The replacement of key personnel wasn't AT ALL limited to just the usual political appointee positions - not EVER in this regime. Right from the beginning they were engaged in (partisan!) political cronyism.

Background -- I was a "Senior Research Scientist" at a DOE Laboratory (PNNL) in the 90s, engaged in organizational and program management tasks of a wide variety, including security, management control, diversity programs, and IT strategies. Much of the work I was doing crossed departmental (i.e. Energy, Defense, etc.) boundaries. While I was employed by a Management & Operations contractor (about 95% of DOE is privatized), the work required a lot of interaction with federal employees.

On a forced travel layover, I ran into one of the folks I'd had some contact with years before and we had a long evening during which we discussed old times and 'new times' ... and the picture wasn't a pleasant one.

I have absolutely no doubt the entire federal bureaucracy is infested with these termites.

In fact, I'm virtually certain Poppy Bush did the same during his tenure as Director of the CIA. These people are an organized crime family.

correction, crime family.

As I mentioned upthread, it's simply encouraging (?) to see it voiced outside of DU, especially by Hersh, someone I admire tremendously.

Thank you for sharing your insights.

:)

(On edit: I hope I live long enough to see much of the crimes against this nation and against humanity of the last 50 years or so come out for all to see.)

17. About Cheney's recent visibility....
I mean, geesh, we've heard more from this guy in the last eight weeks than we did in eight years.

While I find it intriguing, I must say I personally feel better whenever he IS out in the open. He's always going to be doing something detrimental, but the more out front he is, the more he will come to mind to remind the public of BushCo's destructive power. The 21%-ers will always listen to him.

Associating himself with Rush, in opposition to Colin Powell, was a delightful turn of events, IMO. They're leading The Chickenhawk Party now.
