"take my liberty, I'm scared to death" good, solid Americans out there. I know they make more noise than the other points of view, but this is one I have heard over and over again almost throughout my entire sentient life, certainly since I became active in politics way back during Vietnam.

Do you remember, years ago, the saying "The Constitution is not a suicide pact"? I do and that was way before the torture issue recently.

I am sure there are shades of opinion and that Gregory is oversimplifying. But he's on TV and we aren't and I can bet you that if I were to go out and ask ten people at random that question I would get more in favor than against torture "to keep us safe." And I live in a liberal city -- I know if I went to the Yale campus not too far from my house I would get a different response,tho!

How come I feel like whenever Rush says something offensive (and he has actual political power) , the reporters are more like "was it over the line?" than "it was over the line" (though, I guess because they were there at the WH dinner), John King said the other day "Now, I rarely give my opinion on these things, but I thought it was too much, and many others cringed too."
