Conservatives Support Rapists
Alaska- Palin
Texas- Rick Perry

I'm sure the list is longer. These conservative leaders support rapists. Their supporters support rape.

When a woman who has been raped is forced to pay for the investigation, you have to wonder where the demographic or twisted ethic comes from. I am trying to figure out where their twist of logic comes out that they think this is where they need to save money.

One guess is that their compassion for women who have been raped, is so low that they figure that no one will care. There is a warped sense of logic in some sick brains that does not consider a woman's life, dreams, hopes, thoughts or plans. They see women as property, and a raped woman as lower valued property. I suppose the same folk that want to force a woman to bear a child that was caused by rape, and blame the woman for being victims, might see this is reasonable. My guess is that this is their step on the way to privatizing police departments.

Another guess is that this is an attempt to make it look like there is less rape going on. If people stop reporting rape, Texas will look like it is rape free! If a couple of thousand is not much money to you, then you can get your rape investigated. This will keep the poor folk from using the courts.

I wonder if Palin got the nod for VP, because she was willing to try out this social experiment in the first place.

Here is my third and last guess as to why conservatives like this. This policy protects rapists.

3. In my youth, the she dressed that way defense was regularly used.
Conservatives have a lot to pay for in my opinion. I cannot see a value that they can claim. Not one.

13. Ugh, my friend is claimed to have "problems with attention-seeking behavior" and many idiots...
...I know keep saying that it's her fault for getting raped because of that, and it pisses me off to no end. Not to mention that I consider the concept of "Histrionic Personality Disorder" (what she is officially diagnosed with) to be a bunch of sexist BS because it is mostly women that get diagnosed with it because it is more socially acceptable for us guys to engage in "attention-seeking behavior".

2. Check out the laws in the High Holy Blue States
this is more common than you think, not limited to Texas & Alaska.

6. I have been looking for examples of other states and communities
I have not found a lot of examples. There are a few occurrences, where the victim went into the hospital with no police involved, had an examination with samples gathered, and then made the choice not to pursue litigation. In this case the issue seems arguable. The police were never involved until the hospital bill showed up. I would prefer that the police pay, I doubt many women want to go through the procedure for kicks. As long as the data gathered could also be used for statistics (no name involved) this could also be useful to determine disease issues that might persuade the victim to prosecute and protect further victims.

I would not agree with the logic, but I could see the logic of someone arguing that without an investigation, our legal system is not involved. The problem with that is that without an examination, the evidence will be lost and the criminal is even more likely to remain at large.

In Texas, where the police were informed, and the evidence used to successfully convict, billing the victim seems rather extraordinary. Do they charge banks to investigate robberies? Do they charge insurance companies to investigate theft?

This shows extraordinary lack of judgment and compassion. That seems to be the meaning of the word conservative these days. Conservative; noun, A person with extraordinary lack of judgment and compassion.

8. Well, in your rush to bash Texas, you obviously overlooked a lot
Like this:
http://health.usnews.com/blogs/on-health-and-money/2008/02/21/rape-victims-can-be-hurt-financially-too.html

which cites a case from North Carolina & others:

But according to a 2004 bulletin published by the NCVC, "eedback from the field indicates that sexual assault victims are still being billed." Knecht says she's recently heard from caseworkers in Illinois, Georgia, and Arkansas reporting that rape victims continue to be charged for their forensic exams.

10. Born and Raised Texan here, your issue won't pass!
Don't give me the Texas bashing argument. This is wrong whatever state you are in. Don't try and distract the issue at hand either. In the article you cited, it said they paid partial in North Carolina, and now it has been taken care of and they don't pay. Bit different from an ongoing, ignoring national law, campaign to damage the lives of women. Give good information with out the issues, and I will be grateful of the information. Any State with this issue needs to feel pressure.

I regularly take my bicycle and ride past the Bush Library. No strong urge to bash the state that gave us Molly Ivans and Barbara Jordan. I honor the Texas Flag, but I despise the Texas Pledge. Anyone with any history under their belt, knows how wrong it is.

I just found out that all Texas Teachers are going to be fingerprinted. When I grew up, in Texas mind you, I was taught exactly what kind of politician wanted to fingerprint everyone. This in contrast to protecting rapists, kind of makes you wonder what their real motives are.

Four years ago, I considered myself a Conservative Member of the Democratic Party. http://journals.democraticunderground.com/PurgedVoter/2 Now the term conservative makes me want to spit.

4. The aim of such laws is to increase women's dependence on men, on all fronts.
In essence, what they are saying is, a woman should never be wondering around anywhere without her husband or father. And if it happens to be her husband or father who is the rapist, oh well.

12. As a friend of a disabled rape survivor I find this shit disgusting.
I have been simply shocked and horrified how little support others, especially other guys, have given my friend. And it's not limited to conservatives, there was a thread a few weeks ago where many DUers were justifying date rape. :puke:
