They will save trillions by treating the unfunded "public option" as a repository for their high-risk customers. If they can deny coverage to anyone they deem unprofitable, and push them towards the public option, they stand to make trillions more than they are promising to save Americans. Essentially, they will cherry pick health care consumers, such that they will very rarely have to (statistically speaking) pay out claims. This is a major bonus for them.

On the flipside, guess what that does to the "public option".

7. It's been pretty clear that any public option will be set up to fail

in his town hall last month even Obama refered to a public option as being for people who couldn't get insurance elsewhere.

Another thing I haven't heard is how will they fund the public option. Will you still have to be employed to actually be able to afford it?
And what happens if you wind up unemployed are you still stuck with COBRA?

It will operate and subsidize low income customers purely from premiums collected. Its just an underfunded, anemic public-owned insurance company. Its not reform.

I took their "promise" of cost-cutting measures to mean there will be just more and more things they will refuse to cover. And their contracted payout amts will get smaller and smaller.
