2. A friend of mine, a Marine Lt. Col. in the reserves,

who is working as - yes - a mercenary, supplying our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, keeps saying that we have to get the fuck out of Iraq and Afghanistan and the whole fucking Middle East.

When I point out to him that that will mean the end of his job - he has a wife and three little kids - he says he'll find another job.

We need OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I am beyond angry about this crap.

3. "Not seen any intelligence that shows the threat to us from Afghanistan"

Eric is a retired Navy Commander and former top aid to the the head of NATO.

NY-29 and antiwar as they come.

I spent a half hour with him about 3 years before he won his seat.

A remarkable man, indeed.

5. 'head of NATO' at the time was General Wesley Clark.

They remain good friends.

6. Indeed he was

The day I spoke with Eric, I also spoke with The General.

I made a quip that cracked them both up. Somehow we were speaking about marching out of step. The General made a comment and asked who marched like that (the answer, in context, was "repubicans"). I said "Sailors". (I served, like Eric, in the Navy).

8. Yes, exactly right

At a townhouse on Capitol Hill.

It was so hot the polish was melting off shoes as we stood in the back yard. The big donors got to have cocktails and munchies inside while we poor folk waited outside.

Eric was out with us until the time to go back in.

That was the first of a number of donations he's gotten from us.

He always sends personally written thank yous.

I wrote up some papers for him, i.e., health care.
