Healthcare Reform is Make or Break for the Democratic Party
Edited on Tue May-12-09 01:45 PM by WeDidIt
Mark my words, if they gloss over and pat themselves on the back with this bullshit, like they are doing, then this is the high point for the Dems.

Everything I've seen to this point says it's 1993 all over again.

We'll lose the house in '10 (like we did in '94) if it's a bullshit measure and nothing changes.

1. They said the same thing 2 years ago about ending the war
Yet our party survived. And the war rages on.

10. No one cares about 'the war' anymore
The Central Leadership Corporation succeeded in making warmongering a dead issue.

But people do have strong feelings about healthcare

2. If we get the same old incrementalist CRAP we have been served
over the last 15 years, it is over for me. Nothing like feeling foolish over believing all the healthcare hype during the elections and then to find out it's the same old tripe when push really comes to shove.

3. I agree-We'll lose the house in '10
They are already preparing. Nothing has changed as far as our 'elections'. They let Obama win this one because they wanted to blame everying on him. If we don't hold our party to account, and demand REAL change in health care, and these unending illegal immoral wars...it will be that much easier to steal it and we will get a new Newt Gingrich no doubt.

Now might just be our only chance for REAL health CARE

12. Where are you going -- ???? Meanwhile Repugs have to soften on many issues because of
Obama/Dem wins in 2006/2008 --

Keep the pressure on -- keep calling -- keeping e-mailing -- keep talkin' . . .

Meanwhile, where are you going? Doubt you'd be joing Repugs and before we can get IRV

voting, we have to get public funding of elections ---

Which reminds me . . .

Common Cause was advising that legislation is in the works called

FAIR ELECTIONS NOW ACT -- HR 1826 --

Evidently Common Cause has been working on members of Congress to sign PLEDGES ...

and they want everyone to call their Reps/Sens to sign up to support or to sponsor this!!!

Spread the word --

16. Were you the candidate or the support team?
Edited on Tue May-12-09 04:44 PM by defendandprotect
Yeah . . . I went thru that with Dems a while back -- it's disgusting . . .

but few hear want to hear how compromised the Dems are by corporate money.

MIC corporates, as well --

I'm for public financing of campaigns to break this hold -- but we also have

to have citizens say . . . WHEN, WHERE, HOW -- HOW OFTEN . . . and get

TV time for candidates -- and move third parties in. From there we can go to

IRV voting.

That's one of the reasons that the Dems aren't pushing public financing.

None of them wants any real competition!

Dems and Repugs have privatized even the presidential debates!!!

The only thing I have less faith in than the american government is the american people.

Now, not so much.

Lots more people have the internet now. And we're not so fat and happy as we were then.

17. She won't have to block it.
Single payer is not now,nor was it ever, nor will it be an option. Obama doesn't want it, the Congress doesn't want it, and gawd knows the health care industry doesn't want it, and we all know who owns the government. (Big clue--it ain't us.)

Short of taking to the streets and a national stop work movement, it isn't going to happen.

I think we should fight like hell to get single payer, but I also think we should be realistic about what it's going to take to make it happen.

We need to take learn a lesson from France. In France, the gov't. fears the people. In the US, the people fear the gov't.

(Note: for any anon.,secret agency monitoring this post, I AM NOT advocating overthrowing the gov't. I'm just saying the gov't. needs to be more responsive to the will of WE THE PEOPLE.)

18. We now have something like 40 million Americans living in poverty . . .!!!
Edited on Tue May-12-09 09:01 PM by defendandprotect
IME, something has to happen here -- Americans have to wake up-!

Let me also volunteer that if we don't get Single Payer ....

Social Security will be up next for Obama to toss over -- much as Clinton

destroyed Welfare Guarantees.

It's that old bit . . . it will take a Democrat to destroy Social Security.

Meanwhile, Europeans will not either be able to hold onto their programs if America

is totally defeated in this, again.

This is also our opportunity to put capitalism in check -- corporations in check . . .

to some degree.

I'd hate it if we missed doing all of this -- !!!

21. As they say, you can't sell democracy to hungry people ---
They also say that TPB took a look at the 1960's revolution which was a total challenge

to corporations, health care, military, wars, social controls on sexuality, etal and

decided that Americans had too much money and too much time on their hands!

Unless we stop capitalism/corporatism now poverty will continue to increase --
