Dems Raising Cash Off Sessions’ Claim That Obama Is Plotting To Kill Economy

The DCCC is hoping to raise $50,000 off of NRCC chief Pete Sessions’s controversial claim that Obama is secretly scheming to destroy the American economy as part of a “divide and conquer” strategy to consolidate power.

A Democratic source sends over a fundraising letter on Sessions’ assertion, by Paul Begala, that will go out this afternoon:

Are you ready for this one?

The leader of the Republicans’ efforts to win back the House just accused President Obama of trying to deliberately drive the stock market down in an attempt to consolidate power. This comes from the party of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove!

We know how low they can go. That’s just one of the name-calling, outrageously absurd tactics they are trying. Another favorite is that Republicans are now calling five Democratic Members of Congress who stood with President Obama in helping to pass his economic recovery bill “lap dogs!”

Let’s get this straight — the party that Rubber Stamped George Bush so many times they got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is now attacking Democrats for standing with President Obama’s plans to get our economy back on track?

The letter calls on Dems to help raise $50,000 by Friday.

The effort to raise cash off the relatively low profile Sessions reflects a sense among national Dems that some of the oddball things Republicans have been saying lately (see Bachmann, Michele) rallies the base as effectively as scary GOP heavies like Dick Cheney and Karl Rove do.

2. Ah, but they said it (all of it) about Clinton first.
Even the FEMA camp rumors were making the rounds in 1998.

4. The difference is...
Bush actually did the things the conspiracy theorists warned us about...torture, destroying the economy etc.

6. Yes, I include some of us at DU in that description...
but as I said above - it turns out that Bush actually did most of the things we accused him of!

Republican pols, however, are just projecting.

They have no imagination and either copy us or just say the opposite of what we say even if it's illogical.

7. I was speaking specifically of the idea that Bush destroyed the economy on purpose...
...which was quite a popular theme here earlier in the year.

9. Well, I started paying off my debts in mid-2007
and predicted Bush would tank the economy in his last year in office. My friends thought I was nuts. I was debt-free and sitting on savings by the time the "financial 9/11" hit in September 2008.

I suppose we can debate about whether Bush did it on purpose or not but the fact is a lot of people knew he was going to do it.

11. Bush *did* destroy the economy. We were right.
DUers have been consistenlty right about Bush from torture to no WMD, Plamegate, Abramoffgate, Spygate etc etc.

The Republicans are wrong because they are simply copying our ideas without evidence and projecting them.
