Anyone heard from DUer Hekate? Winds to return to SoCal fire area
Winds to return to SoCal fire area

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - With gusty winds in the forecast, firefighters have been trying to complete containment of the remnants of a week-old wildfire that gutted 78 homes in the Santa Barbara area.

The burn area in the foothills and mountains above Santa Barbara remained 80 percent encircled Tuesday. After days of cool, foggy and overcast weather, the fire has been doing little more than smoldering.

But the National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in south Santa Barbara County. Similar gusty winds are also expected farther inland in northern Los Angeles County.

7. The DU search function doesn't like me. I try it all the time
and it never co-operates.

So, thanks!

8. Thank you, doc.
The wind has started back up here again. It was horrible for days, then down for a day, now it's back.

Had we open areas, we'd be looking at fire, too, I do not doubt. When you walk on the street, it feels like you're getting an abrasive facial out here by the beach.

3. Winds are very calm at the moment. Our offices were in the mandatory evacuation over the weekend.
We got a day off with pay on Friday but that was nothing to be happy about.

9. Hi Sweetie! Thanks for the shout-out!
At the moment we're doing very well thanks to the incredible efforts of firefighters from all over, plus some help from the weather. The winds died down, the temperature dropped, and we got some coastal fog. A lot of people were allowed back into their homes, including my daughter who is now packing for a planned move much farther into the burned out zone. I wish she'd let the ash settle for a bit -- can't be good for her or the g'kid to be breathing that. However she cheerfully figures that the fuel is now burned off.

I heard that the Fire Dept, which now figures it has the thing 80% contained, doesn't count a major fire as totally out for at least 2 weeks after it's 100% contained, because of potential embers that could be blown into fire again by a strong wind. We are expecting some more wind this week, so...

Altogether, at the moment it's good. :hi:
