Just engaged a rather stupid right winger in a "debate" over the torture issue. Immediately he turned it into a political debate...which it is NOT...and said that, because the Democrats voted in favor of invading Iraq (also technically not correct), they obviously knew torture was taking place and 90% of them would hang with Bush and that Obama's poll numbers were way down so Democrats are going down and what's with our false indignation with torture when abortion is tearing a baby into pieces and where's the outrage?

Yes, yes, I know. You can't argue with these guys because their logic is so...well...tortured. It's just making me miserable that so many of these folks who call themselves "American" are maligning the meaning of our republic.

2. I argued that there's a difference between authorizing and implementing torture and knowledge of its existence and use, at least with respect to legal severity.

4. I was involved with a guy on a legit project ~~ disaster preparedness ~~

that meant that we had each other's email addies. I tried to be polite about getting his RW bullshit in addition to legit email from him. Well, during the project, I politely asked him to keep our communications to the project. He continued the Rushbo bullshit emails. After we were done with the project and I got another Rushbo missive, I emailed him and told him I was sick of his RW emails and please do not send anything further. He sent more.

Made me feel soooooooo good in my last reply to him to call him "unAmerican" and spew that crap about "treason" for not supporting the POTUS when we are at war. Then I blocked his email addie and told him I was doing so!

5. I Dream About Being Able To Do That Quite Often

Unfortunately, I work in a mid-sized town in north Georgia where almost all of my business contacts are also spouting the Rush Limbaugh talking points at all hours. If I open my mouth, I lose the business, and word gets around fast about "librul traitors".

Having lived in Holland for several years and tasted their brand of freedom, it almost makes me want to cry to know that I've effectively been muzzled. At least I have DU.
