9. I don't think it's so cut and dried

It's a GOP issue...but if there were solid evidence that she knew of torture and agreed to keep silent about it, her political career would be over and it would seriously weaken the Democrats.

It may be that the GOP figures they're going to lose this one, but so what if they do? They're already backed into a corner, realistically it's not likely to make 2010 midterms any worse for them (I seriously doubt they expect to come roaring back, or even at the next presidential election...if I were a GOP political strategist I'd be planning for 2014).

But taking down Pelosi, who they all hate, would keep the base from fragmenting and create a nice big crack in the Democratic party. Certainly, it's in their interest to suggest she was in the know. And if they could prove it, she's fucked.

I honestly haven't made up my mind about it. It could be nothing more than a smear, but unfortunately I have long held doubts about Pelosi's honesty, if not her political ability.
