List the Politicians you trust are geniune...
Edited on Thu May-14-09 06:02 PM by armyowalgreens
I want this to be as bipartisan as humanly possible in a democratic forum. I want to know what politicians you think actually care about the people and don't get mixed up with corporatism even if you disagree with their political views. Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Libertarian, whatever...

I just want the truly genuine articles.

And go

I'll start

Dennis Kucinich
Ron Paul
Bernie Sanders

Just to name a few.

25. He has a 25 year historical reputation and much influence
on Obama. So perhaps the answer is technically no historically and realistically yes. I think anyone who has the standing to tremendously influence policies being legislated in today's Congress is politically active. Of course, you could respond that makes him a mere lobbyist and what kind of response could I come with to that? :)

unless he really changed 180 degrees since then.

39. In the City of Washington, DC Al Gore ALWAYS had a reputation
for having the highest personal integrity. His reputation was distorted in 2000, and a caricatures made of some of his personal idiosyncrasies (especially by Washington pundits who perceived the election as a sort of game). His reputation and expertise in so many areas is exactly what prompted Bill Clinton to ask him to run on the ticket in 1992 (after Gore had declined to run himself due to the recent accident his son had experienced). Clinton needed a lot of balance added to the ticket, and he thought Gore was the perfect choice. Many in Washington thought the order on the ticket should have been reversed.

What you are seeing in Gore recently is the essence of the man he has always been, without the media lens and Republican strategists and/or opponents adding any distortion.

43. I was not questioning his personal integrity or honesty
But, I was referring to the fact that Gore was 100% in favor of supporting the Contras and things like the School of Americas in 1988 when he ran. He also was - ironically - not that good on environmental issues other than global warming. He was the first DLC promoted Presidential candidate in 1988.

I think he changed drastically after Bush was selected - and the change was for the better. Either that - or much of what he voted for and spoke of in the Senate was due to the state he was from.

There is at least a bit of showboating on his current hearing. It was also not all that well handled. He left before it ended to catch a plane - leaving Graham in charge and the one to speak to the media. This DKOS diary suggests in the comments that it was to go to NY - which was also where he was on the KO show. (I hope there was a better reason than this for going to NYC)

9. So do you think that Obama is a compromiser?
Because he's done some questionable thinks in the recent past that makes me question his true intentions.

Either he's a bought out politican, or he simply realized that it takes compromise to make changes. I don't really agree with either positions.

30. I see little evidence of Obama becoming someone other than he said he was...
I suggest you read at least one of his books for clues to his character, which on the whole I think is a good character. The thing many here have a hard time with is Barack Obama is a pragmatist in getting what he wants done, not an ideologue.

As for compromise, a little goes a long way. If you don't want to compromise at all, ask yourself if you really want to go back to the days of George W. Bush, whose idea of bipartisanship always reminded me of date rape: "Stop struggling honey and it won't hurt so much." Just because it would be one of our own refusing to compromise wouldn't make it any more right.

Hekate

Edited on Thu May-14-09 06:04 PM by Mike 03
I've watched him time after time interrogate panelists on the committees he participates in regarding banking issues, and it is obvious from his questions he does not know anything about finance, banking, trade, or any damned thing. Like Maxime Waters, he is another one of those politicians who I can't understand how he or she could ever get on a particular committee.

I would have to watch some hearings over and over to make a list. The question you are asking is very, very important, but I would not be able to make one off the top of my head. Maybe a psychiatrist could.

Joe Biden is one politician I have never doubted for a second.

But off the top of my head, he's the only one, without thinking really carefully about it, could I attest to.
