Poll: Three Out Of Four Workers Skip Lunch


SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― The term 'lunch hour' may soon be obsolete because most Americans say they usually skip it. A new poll shows how they feel pressure to get ahead.

Almost three out of four workers say they work through lunch, either to just get more done, or to impress the higher-ups, or because there just isn't enough time to eat and produce.

The survey by the Society for Human Resource Management shows that 70 percent of us work longer hours to boost our careers to boot.

The poll found that more than half says self-imposed pressure was their main reason for always taking a working lunch. But 44 percent said it's at least in part to meet project or performance goals. But while it would seem many are doing whatever they can to keep their jobs in this climate, it was only 12 percent that said advancing their individual career goals was their reasoning.

Skipping meals is one way to cut costs. Not a good way, but one that occurs way too often.

8. i have skipped, but only when it meant that would make a deadline.. one of 18 makes that difference.

but i do the work of 2-3.. and that really isn't hard to do. one new lady in our cell didn't want to work there.. so she didn't do anything at all but talk and distract us.. for 2 weeks., did NOTHING but YAPYAPYAPYAPYAKYAKYAK. NEVER FUCK'N QUIT TALK'N.. REPEATED THE SAME SHIT OVER AND OVER. F'N NONSENSE, I dont see that where i work in Aerospace.. i see a lot of people not even working during work

3. I used to grab something at my desk. Very unhealthy.

My day often started at around seven in the morning and I didn't get home until ten at night or so--just in time to eat something crappy and fall into bed and get "not enough sleep" for the next day.

When I worked overseas, I was a bit more sensible--I had a couch in my offices, and I'd make it a habit to nap in the afternnon. Made a huge difference.

Still and all, I don't miss that shit at all. Retirement is a good thing.

4. In that case there must be two or three entire companies

of non-lunch eaters! People may eat at their desk but I can't think of anyone whwere I work that doesn't take a lunch break of some type.

The numbers make no sense.

What's funny though is I took a day off 3 weeks ago to play and couldn't get a tee time and had to join a two-some to play. It appears if you drop your greens fee to a reasonable rate then golf is recession proof.

12. Wow. I live in So. Cal., and have NEVER had a time walking on on a weekday that wasn't a holiday.

What are green fees where you are? On munis here they range between 30 and 50 bucks, not including the cart. I've had both ACL's reconstructred, so my walking days are over.

By the way, I had to read your first post twice, I thought you said you went to the shooting range. I'd have replied the same way if you had.

The course in question is a very nice semi private course that lowered it's rates to $26 for 18 cart included.
